Two more covers to The Return of Bruce Wayne are up at DCU Blog. Pretty black n white art by Andy Kubert! I know in the previous posting for Covers #1 & #2 we got spoilers as to what they may be, but here are #3 & #4.

Is that beard for real? No, I mean the hair on his face, not the... never mind.
Sailors and seamen, any port in the storm. It's scans_daily, so it's never just you.
Ahhrrrrrr, matey.

Yes, that big smile on his face is for all those hairy salty men below him who will engage in sword play with the Batman. (Any ideas for a high seas nickname he might earn?)

Ok, I have to admit this one is not doing anything for me. A Hybrid Batman/El Diablo (DCAU) look would've come closer to the Zorro influences (*cough* Grey Ghost *cough*) that would fit the era better. Less ruffles, more sweeping shadows of a wraith, please.

And if anyone is watching the code for the image file names, its pretty easy to see the rest. I'll avoid temptation (and hope it avoids me) by not posting them until DCU releases them.

THE SIZE OF THAT BEARD. HOLY.

...Does anyone know what the swishy stuff is in the background? Maybe the images tile together and it forms a giant batsymbol?

Just...don't, okay?

I quickly joined the four covers we have in photoshop and it looks like you're right. Man, Andy Kubert sure can draw the hell out of things.

Complete joined covers. I resized as much as I thought I could without losing detail, but you might need to zoom out to see the whole picture. The fence and building ledge complete the batshape in the last two pictures. It will probably bee more obvious once it's colored.

I'm kinda getting tired of the bat-symbolism. Yes, we get it, he's Batman in another time, so naturally he's gonna incorporate it in everything; so, lemme guess: the horseshoe's prints leaves little bat marks?

Not that it couldn't be excellent, but really I just look at these covers and keep likening them to crack fanfiction. Like finally every wild dream anyone ever had for Batman (except maybe, MY PARENTS ARE NOT DEAD!) is finally being told in canon. Hahahaha this is gonna be soooo interesting.

Meh. We've already had some of the crackiest crack that ever cracked a crack: ElseWorlds. And one of the main reasons I love them so much is that they don't have to conform with canon, right from the get-go.

At core, what's happened is, they made Bruce go away for awhile. But when he comes back, he'll be a Bruce who shot somebody deliberately.

Well I think Dark God Motherfuckers go on the same list as Vampire Motherfuckers and Giant Mutated Motherfuckers, don't you?

I mean its not like he gunned down the Joker here (not that he doesn't deserve it). He tried to plug friggin Darkseid. I think we can give him a pass on that one.

Other than the Bat Duster - his overcoat - which is a bit awesome, the Brucecowboy and Bathorse is... interesting. the Batmedallion on the horse's chest - unless it weighs a ton, or is glued down, it should be flapping. If it were a breastplate and connected to the saddle by continuing between the legs, it might be cool. I know the horse is drawn in the tradition of great cowdoy and western art and even if he's being shot at, he looks more like the Headless' horseman's horse. And if he takes another stride with his front legs that crossed over, Bruce is going to end up on his batface.

And the pirate dread beard looks too much like tentacles...

And if he takes another stride with his front legs that crossed over, Bruce is going to end up on his batface.

First thing I saw, too. It looks like the horse is a stride away from hitting the ground. And some western breast collars don't have a third line between the legs. The weight of the leather and the strain of holding the saddle in place keeps it from flapping too much at a full gallop. I'm not really a fan, since I don't like relying that much on a breast collar, but they're dead useful for sports where you bolt out of the gate, like calf roping, team roping, etc. In that sense, I can see this era's version of a "batmobile" wearing one.

Also, Bats totally needs to name that horse Batmobile.

glad someone else worried about the poor horse - another example of it's never just you...

He can't name it Batmobile if it's a Thoroughbred, according to the Jockey Club Online there already is a horse named Bat Mobile (foaled 2000)

Saddle slipping is bad. You're right tho, I blanked on breast collars, there are English or TB racing versions, I never used them personally even on my jumpers and I've only used a breastplate in conjunction with a martingale attachment.
