Peter Parker may be short on luck but his life sure isn't short on beautiful, intelligent women and here, Marvel is proud to present three all-new tales of Spider-Man's greatest loves. First, Spider-Man finally strikes it rich thanks to the help of the beautiful Black Cat and superstar creators Chris Yost and Michael Ryan. But it's one payday he may live to regret. Then, Webhead stalwart Fred Van Lente teams with rising star Javier Rodriguez to take you back to a chance meeting between Carlie Cooper and Gwen Stacy--and how it changed their lives forever. Finally, legendary Amazing Spider-Man writer Roger Stern checks in on Mary Jane Watson. How is Peter's ex coping in a Spider-Man world?

Date: 2010-02-13 05:20 am (UTC)Are Gwen, Mary Jane, and Carlie supposed to look about 16? I guess Gwen and Carlie could be, from the story description, but Mary Jane would be in her late 20s if she's Spider-Man's ex.
Mary Jane looks tough and a bit slutty. Has that ever been her character description?
I miss the days when they'd have a basic model of what a character looked like. The only reason anyone would be able to figure out who's who is by already knowing that these are women from Peter Parker's life. Gwen is the one with the headband, Mary Jane has red hair, Felicia is the one in the Black Cat costume, and Carlie is the one left over.
Someone has a thing for high heels. If it's Carlie's first time wearing them, that would explain a lot.
Does anyone else expect Austin Powers to rip the wig from Felicia's head and say "That's a man, baby?" And I'm not talking about the lack of freakishly large breasts here.

Then again, I never liked Austin Powers.

...um. Who is that, actually?"
Finding out that it was Carlie Cooper didn't help any, either, because that just left me thinking, "Hold on...if this is who I think it is...how is she one of Spider-Man's greatest loves when I can't even remember if the two of them have even been in contact recently?" Has she been in any of the recent issues? I remember seeing stuff about Michelle and Norah, but no Carlie.

Date: 2010-02-13 09:23 am (UTC)She was just in the most recent issue! Telling Pete she's not sure she wants anything to do with him anymore because of the way he seems to treat his friends more like resources than people all the time.
So, y'know, definite romantic vibes there.

Date: 2010-02-13 09:14 am (UTC)"Carlie and Gwen are best friends~! Yes the are! Don't you see how connected she is to this family and how important she is? Even if she never met Spiderman, she is still relevant because she knows ~Gorgeous Gwendolyne~!"
Ugh, I just hope they don't push Carlie too much into the spotlight when they write about her and Gwen, or shove it in our faces on how great of friends they were. I still want a good Gwen/Peter story dammit!

Date: 2010-02-13 03:26 pm (UTC)So do I. How do we get to an alternate universe where Stan Lee has been writing Spider-Man for the last 40 years, because that's the only way we're going to get one.

Date: 2010-02-13 05:05 pm (UTC)It's like they're those kind of paper cut out figures you're supposed to put different outfits on. Their faces scare me frankly.
That being said, anyone else think Black Cat looks like Chloë Sevigny?
