How can they be unaware of it? I'm just waiting for Steph Brown to decide that leaving inane clues to crimes sounds like fun and while she's at it she should pick up some over the counter naproxen.
It's happened across alot of writers, and most people just assume eugenetics is the same as nazism.
That's about the only excuse I can think of, really. Seems like alot of socially ignorant people get hired to write comics (rape always involves force! Selling a marriage to Satan is better than divorce!).
Something that struck me about this is how strongly Johns broadcasts it in his JSA run. It could likely fill a very long post in itself, and is kind of creepy.
Then again, character development in comics never working is a long-standing fact. It's still fricking annoying when YOUR GENES ARE EVIL is suddenly slapped in the face of a character who has NEVER shown any bad guy tendencies before.
Uhh? Atom Smasher was never what I would call evil. Being excessively in denial about Black Adam's crimes and taking more of a proactive stance against evil than other heroes does not qualify one as being evil.
His parentage is barely brought up (in its place is Albert's gushing over Al Pratt), nor was Cyclotron actually evil.
The only reason he was the JSA'er brought over to Adam's "shadow JSA" team was that he had a villanous grandfather, and he went from upstanding, cheerful member of Infinity Inc to troubled, brooding and prone to killing enemies in cold blood. It's a huge shift of character, honestly.
I always thought he was supposed to be the heart of that team, sort of Black Adam's morality pet.
Although, it shows the insane DC morality. He saved his mother and killed a threat to the entire universe, and he feels so guilty that he decides he can no longer serve with the JSA and has to join up with Black Adam's Authority knock off.

I'm looking at you, Johns writing Atom-Smasher.
