In response to the discussion about the preview of BL Green Arrow.
First some context. One day Coast City was destroyed, so Hal Jordan went crazy, renamed himself Parallax and tried to destroy the universe so he can restart it in his image. He's was close to succeeding (among other things, he's beaten down Superman), but a team up of a bunch of characters (Waverider, Spectre, and Kyle Rayner are among the more notable ones) have mostly stopped him.
In other news, Damage is busy absorbing energy so he can restart the universe instead of Hal. Oh, and there's a bunch of alternate universe versions of characters around, including a Batgirl from a universe where she wasn't shot in the spine by the Joker.

And then Damage creates a Big Bang and restarts the universe. And Ollie goes off to disappear in an ashram to face his guilt, where he meets Connor Hawke.

Date: 2010-02-20 06:34 am (UTC)As an aside, I once knew a Hal Jordan fan who used to argue that the heroes shouldn't have stopped Hal here, that they were the villains, that Hal's intentions were honourable and that they should've just let him do whatever he wanted. I guess that was one aspect of "Zero Hour" that I liked, a moral aspect that a lot of the other crossovers lacked. It wasn't handled that well (because IIRC it was barely touched on. They just all agreed to dogpile on Hal until the Spectre sorted him out), but it should've been.
I still side with the heroes, though. At this point, Hal was batshit loco. If someone took it upon themselves to redesign the Universe, I'd rather it *not* be in the hands of someone who was, as said, batshit loco. Just how I see it. YMMV.

Date: 2010-02-20 05:05 pm (UTC)I mean really, ZH was just an excuse badly written (and I like Dan Jurgen's Booster Gold) created by Editorial to fix plotpoint they would later overturn (like ZH had Batman as urban legend who didn't know who Joe Chill was, post-IC neither is true) and to get rid of characters that were deemed to old (the JSA who were wiped) in an act that I think many of DC now regret given how strong the JSA franchise is. They also killed off Green Arrow after this (only for Kevin Smith to bring him back).
And it also made Hal more of a uber-super-villain just in case Hal fans didn't get that Kyle was the now "The One and Only Hero GL". Shortly after this we had Dream telling Kyle he would surpass Hal, having everyone except Ollie say how awesome Kyle was, making one of the original TT and Wonder Woman's sister be Kyle's GF. I'm often amazed at how successful Kyle has become as a character in his own light considering how much DC pushed him down reader's throats post-ZH (usually that ends in a backlash).

As for stopping Hal at the beginning of time, he was the one who brought them there. It wasn't their fault he basically invited them there.
