I painstakingly collected all the issues with Floronic Man and Co. and the early issues with the Manhunter clone. Great Stuff. Super-Team Family 14 was an important issue that is linked to this.

Deborah Camille Darnell- was introduced as the fourth Star Sapphire and a member of the Secret Society of Super Villains in Secret Society of Super-Villains vol. 1, issue #1 (June 1976). An alien woman named Remoni-Notra, of the planet Pandina, she is offered one of the five Star Sapphire gems as well as the position of Star Sapphire from the Zamarons. Though she refuses, she goes to Earth to steal Carol Ferris' gem. While on Earth, she takes on the name Deborah Camille Darnell, and joins the Secret Society of Super Villains.[7] Later in Infinite Crisis #6, Darnell is part of a group of magic-users that summons the Spectre. However, after being summoned, the Spectre singles out Darnell for her past sins at Stonehenge and kills her.

So.. she doesn't want one for free, but would rather travel an immense distance just to steal the exact same thing?? I'm not sure the Spectre killed her because of her "sins"..

Makes perfect sense. Taking it from the Zamarons makes her being beholden to them. Stealing it from Carol means she's not beholden to anyone and still has a Star Sapphire at her command.

Doesn't really seem worth the effort though. The Zamarons don't strike me as the strictest of bosses, they probably would have just told her to fly around and shoot Hal Jordan in the face for a bit, which I'm sure is a desire that comes naturally with super powers.

Not to mention the rather sinister invitation of the Wizard for the other two to 'amuse themselves'. Given the circumstances, and the subtle 'oh, boy!' looks on Zoom and the Plant Master's faces as he says this, that's, uh, really kinda icky, to say the least...
