Power Girl's New Creative Team

 At MegaCon 2010, Jimmy Palmiotti announced that Amanda Conner, Justin Gray, and himself are leaving Power Girl after issue 12. Amanda was leaving for health reasons and Jimmy and Justin decided they would leave too because it wouldn't be the same without her.

So today the Source announced the new team and released the cover for issue 13 by Sam Basri. It is gorgeous.



I hope the tone of the series doesn't change. It's my favorite title currently just because it's so light.

No, it's not being canceled. The current creative team is leaving though.

She's fine. The health problems are a result of a lack of sleep from staying up for hours getting Power Girl finished. At MegaCon she said the schedule was too demanding so she was only getting a couple of hours of sleep every night.

The art is pretty, though I'm gonna miss Amanda Conner. I'm cautiously looking forward to Winnick, since I've been hoping this title will get a little bit more serious. I like light storylines, but the authors seem to be sacrificing plot and character for fun storylines, which bothers me.

I'm definitely going to miss the original 3 (Palmitti, Gray & Conner) on this book but I will give WInick a shot because I haven't read anything by him that sucked for me (I liked Graduation Day ((because it was the first comic book I read (((sue me)))))).

I hope issue 13 will be SHIT-KICKING AWESOME!!!! They have to go out with a bang!

I don't know much about Winnick, other than he seems to not be the kind of writer that would match the tone of the current PG. That picture is some purty art, but I can't help but notice PG looks angry and determined and very very SERIOUS.

This PG won't be humoring Vartox, for example.


And Conner's artwork....I'd rather see this series go bimonthly if that would give her a schedule worth doing. She's one of the best artists in comics today, especially when it comes to facial expressions. Few artists can carry a story like she can. Can't wait to hear what her next project is.

Ugh Winnick

Dropping this once Winnick takes over.

I have a couple of problems with him, but primarily I can't stand that all of his characters have exactly the same 'voice'. And because of this trait, some are horribly horribly out of character - Huntress' appearance in Outsiders is the best example - he had her saying things like 'dude' and using a lot of slang, accusing Dick of wanting to 'do her', and generally being a 'total bitch' which is not only completely OOC based on her previous appearances since the late 80s, but also pretty unlikely coming from someone who is also a schoolteacher, no?

I also find him to be somewhat crudely obsessed with shoehorning 'adult' situations into his work - Roy and Grace having 'rough sex', the lead up to an orgy depicted in the Sabbac storyline and wasn't he the one that wrote the issue with Dick and Kory in bed together with used condoms all over the place? I am pretty unwound about sex in comics, but it just seems particularly incongruous the way he writes it...
