Knock Knock
Apr. 18th, 2010 08:45 pmNewsarama has various solicitations up. I've included two in this post (for Action Comics and Booster Gold.)
Orangen't you glad I'm not Lex Luthor?

ACTION COMICS #891
On sale JULY 28 • 40 pg, FC $3.99 US
Written by PAUL CORNELL • Art by PETE WOODS
Cover by DAVID FINCH & joe weems
When Lex Luthor finally regained control of LexCorp, he thought he had everything he wanted. But in BLACKEST NIGHT, he briefly became an Orange Lantern and got a taste of true power. Now he’ll do anything – anything – to get that power back. Buckle in for a greatest hits tour of the DCU’s most wanted as Lex Luthor begins an epic quest for power, all brought to you by new ongoing writer Paul Cornell (Dr. Who, Captain Britain and MI-13) and artist Pete Woods (WORLD OF NEW KRYPTON), with covers by David Finch (BRIGHTEST DAY, Ultimatum)!
This sounds interesting, and I'm glad to see that they're not just ignoring Lex's involvement in Blackest Night. (Incidentally, for those who were expecting Guggenheim, Cornell has taken his place.)

BOOSTER GOLD #34
On sale JULY 14 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US
Written by KEITH GIFFEN & J.M. DEMATTEIS
Art by CHRIS BATISTA & RICH PEROTTA
Cover by KEVIN MAGUIRE
Booster Gold travels into the past to right the wrongs of JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST. But when present-day Booster is mistaken for his past self, he lands in the middle of an old JLI mission with Blue Beetle and the man who killed him – Maxwell Lord!
Macguire (well for the cover)! Ted! Classic Max (sort of)! The collar!
Suggested tags: genre: solicitations, title: action comics, title: Booster Gold, creator: David Finch, creator: Kevin Maguire, creator: Paul Cornell, creator: Keith Giffen, creator: J.M. Dematteis, char: Lex Luthor, char: Booster Gold, char: Blue Beetle/Ted Kord, char: Maxwell Lord.

Date: 2010-04-19 10:39 pm (UTC)He was always a manipulator, I don't mind a story where he decides superheroes give to much respect to clowns, are to eager to work with conflicting governments even alien ones and overreact to people setting up things to defend agains them that domination needs to replace manipulation.

Date: 2010-04-19 11:03 pm (UTC)Yeah, I could definitely have accepted Max turning evil/morally ambiguous if they'd did it a different way--your suggestion works well, and something like Max being hijacked by an alien computer again could've been great, as Max would've been a tragic character as well. It's the "he was always evil and we never liked him" bull that really pisses me off--it throws out Max's extensive character development and a lot of the JLI relationships. Not to mention skipping past morally ambiguous right to one-dimensional eeeevil villain shooting Ted in the head. He could've been a really interesting quasi-villain, especially with the drama of the JLI having to fight against their friend, and they threw that all away in favor of twisting his character into what they wanted his powers to do.

Date: 2010-04-20 03:12 am (UTC)I am not sure where this came from
Date: 2010-04-19 11:55 am (UTC)Lex Luthor: I just always thought I was doing things for humankind. Letting them choose their own destiny.
Therapist: And Superman represents...?
Lex Luthor: An alien coming in and solving all our problems for us.
Therapist: Is that why the ring bothered you?
Lex Luthor: No. I was using that. It was the particular ring I was using - Orange. I mean, "greed", seriously? Is that really my defining trait? Is that how the universe sees me? I - I have to think about this for a while.
Therapist: ...
Lex Luthor:... Fuck the universe.
PS: Booster you make me sad. D:
