I was bitter about his character de-railment before and now they're really rubbing it in.

Man, he's even showing up on Smallville being evil. I am a very sad Max fan. Although I'm not quite up on the Max retcons, cause Wikipedia says they've decided he wasn't always evil--so this story might be real old-school Max. Someday I'll learn to recognize what Booster costume is from what era...

When Booster Gold did the alternate timeline where he saved Ted they had some exposition while in the alternate timeline. We got some things like Pantha's real name and Max apparently started hating superheroes during the time he went from cyborg to regular human.

He was always a manipulator, I don't mind a story where he decides superheroes give to much respect to clowns, are to eager to work with conflicting governments even alien ones and overreact to people setting up things to defend agains them that domination needs to replace manipulation.

Ohhh, that makes sense. I have the world's worst memory for continuity...

Yeah, I could definitely have accepted Max turning evil/morally ambiguous if they'd did it a different way--your suggestion works well, and something like Max being hijacked by an alien computer again could've been great, as Max would've been a tragic character as well. It's the "he was always evil and we never liked him" bull that really pisses me off--it throws out Max's extensive character development and a lot of the JLI relationships. Not to mention skipping past morally ambiguous right to one-dimensional eeeevil villain shooting Ted in the head. He could've been a really interesting quasi-villain, especially with the drama of the JLI having to fight against their friend, and they threw that all away in favor of twisting his character into what they wanted his powers to do.

Starting to think that Ted wasn't in the resurrection en masse because they're going to let Booster bring him back, even though the "door is closed". Starting JLI up again without Ted (and Max) seems a little strange anyway, and then there are these little teases. They also dragged out Steph's return with little hints and unconfirmed sightings. retro can haz blue ring pleez?

I hope so! I don't believe "no resurrections really we mean it this time" for a second. Winick (I think) has said Ted isn't coming back, but I can take that with a grain of salt in favor of hopeful optimism!
