In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.
A number of the Thai boys rescued from a cave system, have entered a Buddhist monastery, to become ordained novices for nine days, in a traditional rite to give thanks for their rescue. One boy has elected not to do this due to being Christian, which seems fair enough.
After some positively sitcom level backtracking about what he MEANT to say about Russian interference n his summit Press Conference with Putin, versus what actually came out of his mouth, POTUS 45 seemed to have decided that it would be a fabulous idea to have Premier Putin over to visit the White House later in the year (Around the time of the next big elections in the US... PS Please register to vote if you haven't alread) much to the shock of pretty much everyone in Washington.
POTUS 45 is also looking to revoke the extended security cleareance of a number of former members of White house staff, most notably those who have said mean things about him. In most cases such staff are allowed to keep their clearance as the expertise they have and experience they have accumulated is seen as a useful resource to call upon should consultation be required, but that seems to mean nothing to the notoriously thin skinned mangled apricot hellbeast.
The US has appreoved what is seen as a possibly revolutionary new one-treatment drug for dealing with recurring malaria. This may well be the start of the eradication of the parasite based disease.
Temperatures have been much in the news around the world;
Yuko Fujii, a Japanese woman, has become the first woman to be appointed chief coach of Brazil's national men's Judo team, which is seen as remarkable given
SDCC has come to an end, apart from some kickasss trailers it seems to have been a relatively quiet affair.
Some of the more relevant trailers have been posted already, and you might want to check them out under the ns: multmedia tag, but here are a few more.
Doctor Who Series 11. worth noting the overwhelmingly positive response that Jodie Whittaker received at the con, as she and the other members of the Who Crew in attendance charmed the socks off everyone, especially her
The Gifted Season 2
Supergirl Season 4 (and the first transgender heroine being introdcued (and played by a trans actress) was confirmed after some speculation)
Riverdale Season 3 looking even more bananas than ever.
Legends of Tomorrow Season 4. Ditto.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald which has Johnny Depp in it, but you can't have everything i suppose.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters. If in doubt SHOW MORE MONSTERS is a motto I gan get behind.
There was a sneak preview of a scene from Episode 18 of season 2 of Miraculous Ladybug, an episode that will introduce two major characters (Well, one new one, and one old one with a new identity), and which also allows Adrien to have a change of clothes, as well as doing his catwalk thing.. well, not THAT Cat walk think, he does that every episode, but an acutal catwal... oh just watch the clip if you want to! ;)
DuckTales got a season finale trailer, which promises a proper showdown between Vatherine Tate's Magica De Spell and David Tennant's Scrooge McDuck, but then also throws in a special guest villain, and location, from a completely different Disney series. This looks AMAZING!
To the surprise of pretty much everyone, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, is getting ANOTHER season, ten years after it first launched. Given we've had a sort of sequel (Well, it reference many of the characters) "Rebels" since then it seems an odd choice, but Dave Filoni has a good track record, so He has the benefit of the doubt.
The trailer for Season 7 of Voltron (Which drops on August 7th) didn't cover the major reveal which went viral within about 10 seconds of Episode 1 being screened at SDCC, and which seems particularly important for S_D to acknowledge, as we will discover that Shiro, the Paladin of the Black Lion, is gay, which we find out via a flashback. Cue the usual combination of "Why do you have to make cartoon characters gay?" (For the same reason you make them straight of course), "Won't someone think of the children?" (Most kids genuinely aren't fussed about this sort of thing) and "I don't care, but I'm not going to watch the series now because of it" (Sadly, a direct quote from a facebook post I saw) and other such things from people who like to call OTHER people "snowflakes".
And we close with an observation; Gail Simone did make a rather trenchant point that Tom King being assigned a bodyguard at SDCC by DC because of threats he'd received after the BatmanCatwoman not-marriage was a sad and reprehensible reflection of toxic fandom, but she also noted that she doesn't recall any female creator being given formal protection, despite far more numerous threats made agaisnt them over many years.

Temperatures have been much in the news around the world;
- The UK's remarkable (for us) heatwave pales by comparison to;
- Japan, which has declared their heatwave a natural disaster, 65 peopel have died and 23,000 have been hospitalised.
- And in Greece, wildfires have claimed at least 50 lives and have led to the Government calling for international aid
