I quickly realized I was unconsciously trying to do something sly: telling a poignant story about a strained parent/child relationship but disguising it as my favorite sort of insane, anything-goes Eurocentric sci-fi. The two halves of that equation are quite neatly balanced within the idea that kicked it all off, which - I’m proud to say - bridges theme, character and setting. But, alas, I can’t say much about it, because it really is a doozy of a twist. -- Si Spurrier

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves

Astronomers have discovered that some galaxies local to the milky Way are in fact amongst the oldest in the Universe; Segue-1, Bootes I, Tucana II and Ursa Major I are over 13 billion years old, and the universe itself is estimated to be around 13.8 billion years old.

Speaking of ancient clusters of flaming gas, more fun at the White House... Rudy Guiliani's interview which gave us the chioce quotes "Truth isn't truth", and how he's worried that if Trump testifies he'll be "trapped into perjury" is one that's going to linger.

North and South Korea had a reunion weekend,
an occasionally annual event where fmaily emmbers separated bythe partition after the Korean War can be reunited. As the partition was 67 years ago, there aren't a lot of family members necessarily left. In this most recent one, a 92 year old woman was going to be reunited with the son she hasn't seen since he was four.

The world mourned Aretha Franklin, undisputed Queen of Soul. The Obama's tribute so far eclipses Trump's (Which actually included the phrase "She worked for me in the first paragraph") I'm not even going to bother with the latter.

The state of Kerala in southern India suffered devastating floods which have killed around 350 people.

As part of it's 100 Women project, the BBC has featured Shreya Arora, a young Indian artist, who is currently drawing attention by redrawing sexist comic book covers. Check it out, it's rather fun

I know there was concern that it wouldn't be able to beat the drama of "Last Flight of the SunChaser", but the Duck Tales season finale "The Shadow War" was pretty damned impressive IMHO. A double length episode so everyone got a chance to shine, and I mean EVERYONE (Well, except the Beagle Boys but I'm glad they weren't included as it would have cluttered things up)

Catherine Tate as Magica was as awesome as hoped. Hamming it up a bit, but she IS Magica De Spell and she has some quiet moments of cruelty too, so it works. Also, one of my earliest Disney memories is reading an old Mickey Mouse Digest where magic causes shadows come to life and attack their owners which creeped me out for months, so THAT helped)

And Lena… what can I say about Lena that isn’t a spoiler? Alas, pretty much nothing at all, but, they went THERE?? From genuinely unsettling effects for her possession by “Aunt Magica” to… nope, watch it yourself.

And I've been dabbling in fanfic again for the first time in ages, so if you're missing Warlock and Cypher fluff, this might be your lucky day... or not.
