#3 opened on Deadshot reporting that the president of Bahdnisia, the American puppet elected in a rigged election, had been shot in the head.

He didn't mention that the puppet president's killers were his teammates, the Squad conscripts Osita, Wink, and the Aerie - still very much Revolutionaries.

The Squad's handler Lok was angered enough by the partial truth.

"[Editor] Wil [Moss] reached out to me and asked me if had any thoughts about doing a Killmonger mini-series that was an origin of sorts of the character, and I thought that was pretty interesting. But what I told him was, I didn’t want to do something that people would expect. I didn’t want to just recap what we had heard in his mythology. I wanted to explore the choices and the failures that lead a person to dedicate their life to revenge, and how that happens. Because with Erik, I feel like it’s really a tragedy. Black Lightning (Jefferson Pierce), created in 1977 by writer Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden (who is Guyanese-American), was DC's first superhero of colour to get his own title. He also subsequently appeared in such titles as Detective Comics, from which this tale comes.
