In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.
Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.
The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.
Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.
It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using
the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing. The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than me.
I'm still unconvinced that the world needs live action remakes of Disney classics,
but Halle Bailey has a lovely voice.James Gunn has said that he wants the next big screen Superman should have "humanity" and be "Somebody you want to hug". Honestly I'd say if your interpretation of Superman in any media ISN'T like that then you've grossly misunderstood the assignment, but it's nice to see it said out loud. (and I leave you imagine some of the edge-lord responses he's comment received)I'm up to episode 8 of Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger. and am imressed, if surprised, at the level to which the big bads of the season, the insect based Bugnarok, seem to be secondary to the on going soap-opera between the various King-Ohger's and especially the Red (the younger brother of the King who means well but seems mildly deranged to everyone else) and Silver (the corrupt but currently rightful, King). You get the feeling they're sort of waiting in the wings for a convenient chance to do something, but can barely get a giant insect monster in edgewise.
Speaking of such things, the Coronation of King Charles III is this coming Saturday, and extra public holiday to one side, I still don't have it in me to care.
The Met Gala was last night, with the theme of honouring the late Karl Lagerfeld, so if you want to see fashion raised to the level of high (though possibly surrealist) art, here's your chance. Also your chance to see Jared Leto in a (literal) cat suit.Ron DeSantis has decided that the smart way to make a name for himself as a likely Presidential candidate is to pick multiple fights with Disney. (Add your own saracastic rejoinder because I had too many to choose from)
Dr Geoffrey Quinton, a cognitive psychologist and computer scientist known as "the godfather of AI", has quit his job at Google so he can be free to talk about what he sees as the inherent dangers of AI. So that's... a bit concerning.
Oh, a late addition for UK members of the board. Local Council eleections are happening across many parts of England this Thursday so, despite the ludicrous new "Proof of Identity" requirements in one of the most blatant bit of vote-discouraging I've ever heard of, please do try and participate in local politics, it helps your community and it might help send a message to those in power.
