Max Damages is lying helpless, bleeding to death in a hospital, but he's saved by someone wearing ex-sidekick (as of last issue) Jailbait's costume. It turns out to be Annie, the girl he met a while back.

She makes him promise to always protect her before administering. Kind of selfish if you think about it, making it all about her, but a little selfishness can be forgiven considering the circumstances, I think.

The two bust out of the hospital, then bring down the local branch of the Diamond Gang, the white supremacists who killed Annie's family. While smashing up their base, they find a troubling book.

I have to admit I was leary when I first heard the premise for Incorruptible and Irredeemable. However I do like where they went.

Where the story of the Plutonian is about a man becoming the ultimate villain, this story about Max is about him becoming a true hero. It is the Dichotomy of the stories that really get to me. And I see that there must be a reckoning between the two of them at some point.

See, I may have to get this now, at least the trade. It's like the exact inverse of Irredeemable, including the fact that I like it.

I'm loving this series.

It's a great villain/hero piece.

"She's upside-down. She saw the Diamonds burn her whole family, and now she's a Jack-In-The-Box with one note left to go. So Halloween came early."

Who talks like that.

I can speak pretty good English, but metaphor is my native language.

Jailbait, it seems, is an intrinsic position of awesome. I liked the previous Jailbait, and I'm liking this one, too. It's a nice bit of realism how she's just falling apart from her family being killed, so she grabs onto the nearest thing that'll help her deal with it - which happens to be the Jailbait identity.
I have to wonder, though - if Max Damage is now a hero, shouldn't his sidekick switch names? 'Jailbait' is fine when you're a villain, but it's a tad iffy when you're a hero.
Also, judging by the cover, I'm guessing there's a scene where the two Jailbaits get in a fight. Am I correct in this?

Oh yes, that's MUCH better.

Perhaps, but still not exactly complimentary. 'Jailbait' at least has a certain 'bad girl' vibe to it, even if it IS basically bragging about being underage - 'Headcase' means 'crazy person' in the 'unhinged and should be locked up' sense. I can't really see anyone calling themselves that.
