Batman/Bruce also Max remembered in The Return. Now all we need is Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Guy Gardner and Captain Marvel (Billy) and we really will have a JLI reunion (of living members).
Funny how they say how hard Kryptonians are hard to kill. Even Didio*-friendly DC writers like Winick are disclaiming the whole easily massacred genocide of 100,000 Kryptonians in the New Krypton storyline from this summer.
*I say Didio because it was apparently (according to one Sterling Gates interview) it was his idea to kill off all the New Kryptonians at one time.
That pretty much had to be the way it was done. It was obvious for Superman's continued "Last Son of Krypton" status they couldn't stick around for long, and you can't really kill thousands of super-powered Kryptonians piecemeal.
True, though that would have required either turning Kandor into some sort of enforced internment camp/prison after the cessation of hostilities, which would have had all sorts of unfortunate implications (The pre-Crisis Kandorians may have been lazy gits, but they made it clear that they chose to stay in their bottle until they could be enlarged).
And then we have the problem of A) How would you have forced 100,000 supermen to stop a war they would probably have won without breaking that much of a sweat, simply by half a dozen of them using heat vision from high orbit. (cf post-ZH Trom)? As it stands they didn't surrender and thus were, effectively, casualties of war.
I thought they should have the Kryptonians wage war, but then Supes managing to talk everyone out of killing everyone else, proving that The Most Super Thing About Him Is His Morals and Spirit.
As a condition of peace the Kandarians exile Kal forever and decide to take New Krypton to the opposite end of the universe or a pocket dimension or somewhere where they can be completely forgotten until someone decides they wanna use them for something again. They invite Supergirl along but she decides to stay on Earth because maybe... she's kind of pissed at humanity (since they you know, started the goddamn war), but she just doesn't want to leave Kal all alone.
I figure that gives you more or less the same status quo you had at the end of the thing but for less-stupid reasons and a couple decent new story options if anyone wants 'em.
But it all proved was the despite what we've been told for 60 years Kryptonians apparently are pretty easy to kill and that Earth has the technology to do it any time it feels like it. Which pretty much dilutes Supermans's standing as the most powerful (non-God powered) being on Earth. And they did keep Supergirl alive, and Zod, Ursa and Non and a bunch of other people.
Am I the only one wondering where the black hair in the "final product" of Peej is coming from, besides the obvious hair dye? (PG/Terra shippers, I'm talking to you.)
