The story thus far is simple. A small unit searching for a lost group of fellow soldiers has landed on a remote island, which turns out to be full of deadly prehistoric beasts. In short order, all of them except for John Cloud and the sole survivor of the previous group, Colonel Flagg. Cloud forces Flagg to escape the island alone, then with the company's dog they return to the island, mortally wounded by a booby trap the Colonel had set for the monsters, to do what they must.

Okay, so it can compete with Skurge's death. What else can? Any of Superman's many deaths?

So moving on like five different historic levels.

Second only to Skurge.

And John Cloud would accept that rank with honour.

If there's a more simultaneously moving and hardcore last stand, I've never seen it. I bought New Frontier on the strength of this first chapter--I was reading it in the store and new from this point I had to own it.

Take flight. With grenades. Into a Tyrannosaur's mouth.

So epic.

It'd take the involvement of Volstagg to get more metal.

I just read the scene with soft flutes and slow motion, when I see it in my head. If it were Volstag, it'd be power chords all the way.

Have the Warriors Three ever fought dinosaurs? I would read that comic.

I can see it now.

Volstagg eats half of them.

Hogun intimidates the rest into submission.

Falandrel sits in a tree and by charisma alone causes all the mammals to evolve.

The Hogun/Carnosaur staring match would be worth the price of admission, alone.

And with Volstagg chomping down on T-rex wings.
