Your new Spider-Man (in high res)

So we've gotten an "official" picture of Andrew Garfield as Spidey unmasked, and we've had a couple of candids of Spidey on set, but this here is the first official image of the new Spidey in full costume.

The movie, btw, is going to be called "The Amazing Spider-Man". 

For legality, here's a page from Cable & Deadpool #50, written by Fabian Nicieza and illustrated by Reilly Brown.

Yes! With you! Awesome to see them back. Though I'm sure it'll confuse those who were introduced to Spidey mainly through the movies.

Oddly, the gloves here give me a very "Ben Reily" feel. I'm guessing that's not a conscious thing, but I know I'm well in the minority when I say that I liked Ben's costume.

Meantime, someone tweeted me a link to this article which has another shot. I don't know what the deal is with the silver Spider-Sandals, but I'm told that if you brighten the image in the OP, you can see them there, too. I guess they protect the actor's feet. Maybe they'll be removed in post?

ETA: Brightened the image. Yep. You can just barely see them, but clearly the silver Spider-Sandals are there.

I wonder if they opted to keep JK Simmons as Ol' Jolly Jonah? Say what you will about the previous films, he was terrific, and it's not like there's no precedent (keeping Dame Judi Dench as M when rebooting the Bond series).

i want to hate this movie soley on Principal, one bad movie does not a re-boot need... seriously... thats what bugs me, the spider-man series wasa good series. change actors, fine, but you don't need to reboot it

I definitely agree, but to play devil's advocate, with Raimi and Maguire gone, rebooting it was probably the best option from a business point of view as opposed to making a sequel with a different Spidey and supporting cast.

Honestly, I thought the first two were mediocre at best--I'm not a fan of Raimi as a serious film-maker, and I could never buy McGuire as Peter. The fact that it's a re-boot with a filmmaker I actually like makes me EXTREMELY hyped for this movie.

The word on the street is that they're trying to make this a darker/grittier version of Spidey compared to Raimi, though.

It's not that. Personally I think there's a mixture of excitement and meh...because Spider-Man was one of those movies that really didn't need a reboot. It had one bad movie in the film but then again it wasn't even that, that caused the reboot, it's the fact that Sam Raimi and Tobey walked, specifically because Sam wanted to use the Vulture for the next film and was told no..although admittedly his idea for the Vulture wasn't a good one (he wanted Felicia Hardy to be the Vulture..yea..) so just..different feelings going in here. Not to mention, considering we already had our origin movie...no one wants another origin..well at least I certainly don't want another origin movie. If they're gonna do a reboot they should've done it Hulk style, making it a reboot/sequel.

That's kinda my problem. FAR too much detail. He made this in his bedroom? Really? Well, I guess I can buy that he thought four different patterns of fabric(?) on the lower legs alone would be a good idea, because Complicateder Is Better, but...

It's VASTLY overdesigned for what it is.

Also so what the fuck is up with the total lack of feet? Rob Liefeld's doing photography, now?

Box-in-the-box came up with an interesting theory: that a lot of the stuff that people were complaining about from the early photos (the missing belt, the metal 'soles' on his boots, etc) are being purposefully obscured for damage control purposes.

It's really popular to put Spidey back into a high school setting, and it's worked really well so far.

With any luck we'll get the Spectacular version; where Peter's already spent a few months as Spider-Man and is just returning to school. Also, more quiping.

Why do I feel the webshooters are gonna be the same as nipples on the batsuit...some are liking them, but they look hideous to me...when this comes out, I'll be downloading a russian-dub four weeks later and watch it at home...this does not look like its worth craming myself in a loud, packed theater of fanboyz dissecting every scene...

The webshooters... they look so OBVIOUS. So weird, but it doesn't seem right!
Yeah, they were obvious in the comics, but up in action, it seems out of place.

I'm not seeing this movie if it's an origin story. I already paid to see that movie in theaters (twice) in 2002. I even bought the VHS.

Got bit. Uncle died. Fight crime. That's all we need.

I don't think Spidey's origin reduces as easily as Superman's but at the same time yeah I don't think that it's something you need to immediately rehash with every iteration of the character.

Some fans suggested "splitting the difference" with organic and mechanical web shooters. Peter produces the webbing organically from his wrists, but builds the web shooters to give himself better control over them. It would also explain how he can go from webline to webnet to web-whatever rather than spider-instincts.

Perhaps this is where AMAZING is going. Organic webs with mechanical web shooters.
