Doin' my first post here on this forumblogojournaling community of words and pictures for something that - to my ABSOLUTE SHOCK - I... actually mostly don't entirely dislike?!





WHOA okay now that everyone's put on their glare-resistant costume-viewing goggles

Things I like:

- Emphatically, unashamedly a SUPER HERO COSTUME. No muted colors, no "lol, jeans, hoodie t-shirt" shennanigans, pretty much as SUPER HERO as a super hero costume can get.

- Tiara, bracelets, lasso, gold chest-thingy/belt. I mean it's not like THE CLASSIC wonder woman costume but it's way more faithful than anything I expected

- PANTS. I am honestly pretty glad that they went with pants.

Things I don't like:

- I don't personally care about the boots but people are gonna be upset about the boots, I am not gonna be a person who faults anyone for being upset about the boots

- GLARE, jesus christ she is not gonna have to fight much after she has LITERALLY BLINDED her foes, I seriously hope they tone that down a bit on the show

- They probably could have fit some stars somewhere on there, I mean come on

There's some stuff I would think it would've needed, like... shoulder straps, I was legit expecting to be really annoyed by the lack of shoulder straps but... in practice it kinda works without 'em?

Overall honestly I think it still probably evens out to kinda terrible, I'm just surprised to see that it's so much less terrible than what I was expecting, and terrible in such a different direction from the kind of terrible they've done in every terrible superhero thing for the last like ten goddamn years.

I'm sure some (re: a lot of) people's reaction will be THAT SHE LOOKS LIKE A HOOKER but honestly that was probably basically inevitable no matter what they did so I am kind of glad the people who made this went like THAT'S RIGHT EVERYBODY, BRIGHT RED AND BLUE VINYL, WE D.G.A.F.

'Wonder Woman': First look at Adrianne Palicki in costume -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO

What’s different from what we’ve seen before? Well, how about those shiny blue pants? And blue boots instead of red ones? Compared to Lynda Carter’s get-up, this body-hugging extravaganza de-emphasizes the patriotism and seems to play up the comic’s Greek mythology. And a special shout-out to those bracelets!

Wonder Woman is being remade by Boston Legal writer David E. Kelley, who has incorporated the superhero’s signature lasso, cuffs, and plane in the pilot. NBC promises the project, if picked up to series, will offer a serious, non-campy take on the DC Comics character.

Along with Palicki, Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) and Cary Elwes (Saw, The Princess Bride) have joined the cast. Hurley’s character runs a pharmaceutical company that is creating a drug that makes people stronger while Elwes plays the CEO of Diana’s company, Themyscira Industries.

The heels are bad enough, but making the costume out of PVC? It ends up looking more porn-y than what was used in the actual porn!

That's what I've wanted them to do to the new costume for a while. They even got the stars along the side that I wanted and got rid of the stupid footy things. But something about it seems off. I can't decide if its the top, or that the whole thing is so shiny. Maybe they should just go with the original costume.

Maybe it'll look better under different lights, but as it I really can't get past that reaction. I guess the design could work? I guess? But I really can't see past the blinding PVC colors my eyes my eyes.

I think it looks terrific! And its' Tyra Collette as Wonder Woman! She kicked ass on FNL! And she can ACT!

Considering everything else we've seen about this series it could have the most mazing costume ever made by human hands and I still wouldn't watch it.

one thing, i agree it should have been less shiny.

BUT i see what you are saying about it being unashamedly a SUPERHEROE COSTUME seen like that, it works.

though this being a promo pic, under different lighting it should look less eye glariningly bright. Also the heels.

i think the thing that is off about it is the star on the eagle...i don't get it... seriously... its so out of place....

It looks... cheap. I mean, it just looks like it was ordered off Ebay or something. The metal looks plastic, and PVC is a crappy choice to fight crime in. Leather at least breathes.

If they made the colours deeper and richer (especially the blue, yuck) and lost the shine, and... is it me or does her crotch look huge?... anyway, I don't think I'd dislike it if it the colours/textures were nicer.

I think that's what I'm really sticking on too- there are TONS of alternate fabrics this could've been done in, and richer hues would have made it less like something at one of those costume store sites. "NEW FOR HALLOWEEN SEXY CAPTAIN AMERICA!"

I notice she has pants. That's probably something that will carry over when the universe resorts to normal.

Yeah, I'm thinking pants are likely to happen either way--even DC's "Holding the Line at $2.99" promo had Wonder Woman sans jacket and her pants had a blue hue to them...

I wish that they'd gone for a deeper blue at the bottom. Kept the boots red, but with a deeper red than the comic. I like the fact that they have the lasso, and bracelets and the corset is okay. I mean, I don't know how her breasts will be contained when she's doing all sort of exertions, but... okay.

The leggings? are a good luck, because with the cut of the original costume (the bathing suit one), it could get awkward.

My only concern is that because it's David E Kelly, it's going to be more along the lines of Ally McBeal than anything.

well David E. Kelley's the Practice was REALLY dramatic. his later stuff (ally mcbeal and Boston Legal were more... quirky...) well Didn;t he also do Boston Public? that was pretty dramatic as well... he's versatile... just not sure which hat he is going to wear here...

I'll be honest, the thing that bugs me the most (aside from the HOLYSHITBOOBS aspect of the top) is the fact that the boots and pants are the same colour. I'd want one or the other to be at least in a different shade of blue.

Otherwise, it's mostly okay. Although what we've heard of the story so far doesn't sound terribly action-oriented.

I think there's honestly no way to make a classic Wonder Woman costume look not ridiculous, or cheap. I do like the top, but the pants look unfinished.

It'd take a lot more than that for me to really get behind it - serious alterations to the pants - completely redoing them, in fact - primarily. But those would help. Taking the JMS top in its entirety, rather than just the straps would be a major improvement (the top actually works in the JMS costume).

Yeah, I don't hate this, but it just reads wrong. I agree with the "too porny" comments. The top is cut wrong. The fabric is wrong. The actress is too young. It just makes me think of stuff like this:
