Ok, after my last faux pas minutes ago, I need to redeem myself.

Feels like something right out of early Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. ... in terms of the bakground and villains. Bleeding Cool has their camshots of Fear Itself preview books offered for Marvel fans who attended C2E2.

The Hammer of Skaldi.... who was once married to Odin and had kids with him, ex-wife of Njörðr.

He is not an Aesir, but of Vanaheim.

"In Vanaheim the wise Powers made him
and gave him as hostage to the gods;
at the doom of men he will come back
home among the wise Vanir."

Or it could reference their son, Freyr.

Sort of. It might be different in Marvel continuity, but in the oldschool mythology, Skadi is a frost giantess who, for convoluted reasons, gets slighted by the Aesir and gets the choice of their men to marry. Freyr's not her son, as I recall--he's actually one of the ones up for the catching, though she's hoping for Baldr, since he's so handsome--but they come up with the clever scheme of making her pick by feet alone, and the prettiest feet are Njord's.
Their marriage is a mess because Njord's a coastal god of shipyards and fertile lands, and Skadi's effectively a goddess of hunting in snowy mountainscapes--she's often depicted skiing or snowshoeing, with hunting gear. So they can't find a happy medium to build a home. I don't know of her ever being married to Odin.

Njord, Freyr, and Freyja are basically exchange students from Vanaheim. In order to stop the war between Aesir and Vanir, they decided to do an exchange of members between the two families. The Aesir got Njord and Freyr and Freyja, and the Vanir got Honir and Mimir, which went poorly.

I have no idea why Skadi would have a hammer except to parallel Thor, but it's interesting that they're doing a thing with Jotun-based superpowers. We'll see how it goes. And you're right--it totally feels like a Hellboy setting.

Skadi exists in the Marvel Universe. She's a frost giantess huntress who lives out in the wilds. No connection to Odin. Presumably they're making this to be another character.

My theory is at some point hammers were super trendy in Asgard, and then most of them ditched them when they moved onto Silly Bandz.

My first thought upon reading that was "9 planets? Rock!", then immediately to "But nobody would wield the Hammer from Uranus without good thick gloves, and whoever got the one from Pluto must be sad now."

(I do know the entire Norse '9 levels' thing, it was just a passing thought.)

I'm kind of...meh on the way Sin is drawn here. It's hard to articulate why, because it's after 5AM, but the best I can put it is: unless she got some really good plastic surgery, she looks way too boring for having survived the injuries she did, especially since she seems to wear her scarring like some kind of badge.

Her face seems too masculine, compared to the way she looked before she was Skullified--yes, there would be scar tissue and such, but her skull is too wide and square. For a minute, before she started talking about being the Queen of the World, I thought that she was supposed to be the Red Skull's son.

Sin does look overly masculine here, and I'd also kinda forgotten Skullie had a daughter for awhile (I don't keep up with Cap books except through this community).

Yeah, I would like for Bucky to stay as Cap for a while longer, but if the decision is him leaving the mantle or having to go through more legal trials, then get him the fuck out of that suit.

there have been several WWII bases in Antarctica (Baron Strucker and Nick fury fought over a few of them), so it's not unheard of.
The Eternals also have reseachstations there (raided recently by the Intelligencia in the Hulk books).
That and Antarctica's Savage Land has "strange phenomena" field that cloaks the general area around it to a degree, unless you know what to look for.

Again, nothing new.

Same way an Atlantean society of humanoid Crustaceans, Predator Fish and Bottom Dwellers been missed by Namor's Atlanteans and only discovered recently by the AIM and the FF.

Actually I am arguing that its good comic book logic, as the Savage Land's *cloak may overlap with the Eternal's own cloak over portions of the continent. While it's not explained how, there are previous precedents for hidden bases involving Antarctica taking advantage of the areas just at the edge of the cloaks (see my reference to Baron Strucker's hidden bases from SHIELD and Nick Fury in the 90.)

The Marvel 616 Nazi's may have been aware of this phenomenon to hide their own base. Someone's done there homework.

You know what I don't get? Why none of the writers these really play on the fact of his basically greatest strength: his spider-sense. I mean sure, Slott used it in his stupid arc, but really, combine medium level super strenght, super agility, web shooters, and peter's scientific mind, and he can and should be able to go toe to toe with the best of them with the right tools. A situation where this really irked me was in civil war where he went up against Cap and was LOSING. Lets look at the facts; Cap has peak human strength, Spidey has 10X human strength, Cap has peak human reflexes, Spidey has 10 or more times that. Sure, you can play a little on Caps vast experince, but come on, when your opponent can sense what your about to hit him with, and he has experince himself, is vastly stronger and faster then you, PLUS has a super high tech suit with appendages, your basically automatically losing

No, not the end of the Age of Heroes but the landscape of the MU will be changed.

Big stuff for Cap (both Steve and Bucky) and Thor. Less for Tony.

But Sin is basically declaring war on the world.

They say will be bigger then CW but better plotted out.
