Basically, last time what you missed since it hasn't been posted is Rick saying that the people that were in his house, Which was him, Carl, Maggie and Sophia, Michonne, Morgan (who died), that one lady and her kid whos names I don't remember, and Denise that one doctor, should all leave and get to safety. Obviously it was super dangerous and they tried that thing where he cut up one of the zombies and put it on themselves. Maggie said her and Sophia were going to wait it out and the rest of the group headed out.








And then Douglas comes out shooting with a gun he was trying to kill himself with, but wasn't able to. And everyone is like "Stop Shooting! You'll attract more of them!"






And he is still breathing, and as of now Carl is still alive, Rick grabs him and runs him off to the house asking Denise, who was able to get to safety before shit went down, and asks her to save his life.

In all seriousness though... Wow. Tragic is an understatement. Carl might have a chance of surviving, but you could never be the same after something like that... Mentally and physically.

I'm currently writing a horror story, and that actually that works in terms of shock and horror.

Q - What is worse than the unstoppable thing crawling out there in the dark coming to harm you and your loved ones?
A - If YOU are the terrible thing that comes and harms your loved ones and you fail to protect them.

That would be true horror.

I'm trying to think of a way that maybe it's not as bad as it looks D: but this is The Walking Dead so of course it is. But I honestly hadn't thought of the repercussions of what could happen if Carl actually lived. Geez...

Exactly the reason I don't read this comic. The bleakness...it's just crushing. Walking Dead is the kind of book that you read and then feel drained afterwards. Don't get me wrong, it's a very well written book, but for me personally, I find that there's enough things in real life to be depressed about. I don't read comics to feel that way, too. :p

Quick question, though. Was Rick about to leave Carl to the zombies in that second page? Because from his facial expression it really seemed like he was about to.

It is draining so bad. I feel like my heart gets ripped out during every issue but it is one of the most well written books I'm reading that... I really do like every character and I don't know. I love it, it's bad xD

And no, he wasn't, I thought at first he was too, but he went back pretty much straight away and got Carl out of the woman's grip. Maybe it was because him and that woman, who's name I really wish I remembered, started a sort of romantic relationship. I don't know. But that's what I thought too, but he didn't.

This actually made my heart stop for a moment. To me this has been the biggest shock in comics in the past 12 months. But I am also very invested in this comic's story and characters.

Also, yeah, how does one live missing a large chunk of brain in this sort of world?

Same. I didn't see this coming at all, I knew people were going to die but I didn't think Carl would. I thought Rick was going to die before him for sure /:

I don't know. I think maybe it's just the angle of his head as it was shot and how it looks, like maybe it was just his eye and that part of his head and not his brain? I don't know. He's still breathing when Rick takes him to the doctor so it couldn't have like... gone through his brain right? I don't know about what it takes to kill a person but how long are people breathing when they get shot through the brain? But it looks like he's facing straight on so I don't know.....

You can get shot in the brain and survive. You can get the side of your head blown away and survive. It's just rare and doesn't happen much, and most of the time when it does happen you aren't in circumstances where you can be stabilized rapidly enough to prevent complications.

Also, holy shit, this is grim. I know it's Walking Dead, but seriously.

This kind of thing is why I can't read this book anymore.

Not because it's not good, it's excellent. Kirkman knows just how to hit you hardest. It's because it depresses the living hell out of me, and I can take only so much of that.

I think it's easier with zombie movies; everyone or nearly everyone is gonna die, but it's over in two hours, and you don't really have time to get attached to the characters (unless it's a really, really GOOD zombie movie, where you get in to the characters right off) the way you do with a long running series like The Walking Dead.

Hey, if you can't make fun of a young boy getting half his face shot off, then what can you make fun of?

...Okay, now I feel bad. :(

You know, I actually do feel kind of bad/weird that the image of what happened to Carl doesn't really surprise me that much. It's like...I wasn't expecting it, and there is that moment of shock when you first see it, but it's like, the whole series has been so brutal and unforgiving towards everyone that it really isn't that surprising to see something this horrible happen.

I just think that maybe because, I can totally see Carl saying that. He's totally the 8 year old zombie Apocalypse version of the Black Knight :l Oh Carl ;_;

I don't think it was the image that shocked me, I mean after the whole ending at the prison with Lori and the baby, that isn't what shocked me. It's still grim and heartbreaking of course. But for me it's more becuase it was Carl and I thought he was going to be like the survivor of the group. Now I'm like certain they're all going to die I guess. I don't know I still don't know what to think about this. I'm going to wait and see what happens in the next issue. /:

How in the FUCK does the kid survive that?

I'm not a biology expert in the least, but I'd basically say that one reason Carl is still alive (at the moment) is that the human body is insane. Some people can fall and slightly hit their head and be dead instantly while others can survive the craziest things ever. Look up Phineas Gage if you want to see someone who actually survived through something worse than what happened to Carl.

Everyone here is so surprised that such violence could be perpetrated against Carl, but... they've built the kid up as a possible little sociopath for awhile.

Is it messed up that I'm glad for this, because it'll humanize him a bit, again? I was expecting something [much] more shocking in store for the boy...

Oh I totally wrote like this whole article on Carl I definitely don't think he's been built up to be a sociopath, I think he could have easily eventually swung that way, but especially with the last conversation he had with Morgan, in the last issue, which hasn't been posted, I think he's just a product of growing up in this kind of world. You HAVE to do things that people like us wouldn't see as you know... normal.

But I always thought Carl was much more stable then Rick especially as time went on. Rick seems to loose his shit a lot, and just go off on people. Of course that could also be another sign as Carl being more dangerous. I don't know. But I love (Loved?) the kid /:

After seeing that, the question I have is..is there any kind of hope here? Seems more like a downer and..with this much of it, it seriously needs a good ending when it comes to it.

I've grown to accept that there is not going to be any happiness coming from this series. Maybe it'll surprise me. I'm pretty sure them all dying is going to be the happiest ending we're getting from this series.

I was reading the Walking Dead from the beginning and it was like a whole different series, I think it dramatically changed tone and pace during the Prison arc.

That said Andrea and Glenn are probably the only characters I really care about, I will seriously get depressed or flip if something happened to them (or Maggie and Sophie).

It just so happens that we're doing neurology and brain pathology in med school atm. I'm tempted to ask my neurology teachers what the effects of this would be. I mean, I know some theory, but I'm not sure if I'm right. Hmmm.

Not that I have a problem with this, but double-page spreads count as one page here? I always thought each half counted as one page.

Also, poor Carl. I always thought he was untouchable, but the again, I thought the same about Lori and Rick's baby.
