Wonder Woman preview #24 & more
Mar. 30th, 2011 09:57 amThe ComicBookResources has the preview of Wonder woman #24... the penultimate chapter of this alternative/contemporary retconned Diana.
(I know, it's already on the shelves at some stores).
And for bonus points, an action snapshot, too.
At the end of the last issue, Diana is left near death at the hands of the retconned Amazon's Giganta, Cheetah and Artemis. Her mind drifts, and she is given some insight by an unexpected ally with a new vision of her past.

I'll let the group discuss it.
And finally, Adrienne in action.

Date: 2011-03-30 06:02 pm (UTC)As for the comic itself... I really, really see no need for any of the ret-con. At all.

Date: 2011-03-30 06:10 pm (UTC)Seriously, if anything is quintessential Wonder Woman it is that Medusa smackdown and her public blinding. All Wonder Woman writers should be made to read that arc by mandate.

Date: 2011-03-31 06:47 am (UTC)Indeed. She call every superhero she knows by their first name. She calls Booster Gold "Michael." She even calls Superman "Kal" when Clark *might* be more accurate (to Superman, at least).

Date: 2011-03-30 06:38 pm (UTC)I would love to see it be that the real Diana is locked away and this new person frees her and we are granted a new champion. A new warrior to help round out some of the greek mythos.

Date: 2011-03-30 06:56 pm (UTC)I still won't be watching it, though. *shakes head* I know we should support our superheroines, but I just really don't wanna see a series about Insecure Sex-and-the-City-esque Diana.

Date: 2011-03-30 06:58 pm (UTC)Also, the 2nd scan, 5th panel ...:
That's one hell of a stare, lady.
(maybe I should have left in the "look without eyes and tell me - does this feel real?" to give it a more gutter-mind twist)

Date: 2011-03-30 07:01 pm (UTC)The costume in the photo... well, I don't like the face she's making, but it is only a still? Boots and pants look way better, but the metal is still plasticky and that bodice is cheap and ill-fitting and just generally rubbish.
I'm a fan of Power Girl, I don't have problems with women dressing sexily or revealingly, but I cannot take anyone seriously if they wear that to engage in physical combat. It's not practical, and it shows, and I say this as someone who's worn plenty of corsets and been in swordfights while wearing them.

Date: 2011-03-30 07:30 pm (UTC)On the other hand, that bustier...I'm surprised the costume designer just didn't add straps or make the top a little higher. It's just asking for a wardrobe malfunction...Also, why didn't they use the same material for the bustier as they did the boots? It would look better.
If they make alterations to the bustier too and decide that viewers know plastic accessories when they see it, I will be a happy camper.
Hooo boy.....

Or maybe he's's just....

Date: 2011-03-30 08:52 pm (UTC)Physically, she's perfect because she's tall but not too skinny. It's believable that she has strength.
Acting wise, from what I've seen, she can do confident and commanding pretty well.

Date: 2011-03-30 09:17 pm (UTC)I guess the comics are going to wrap up this elseworlds story. Can't wait to see which random handful of these roundly dreadful, uninteresting ideas get grafted onto the main character so I know which ones are at least meaningful enough to be annoyed by.

Date: 2011-03-30 09:23 pm (UTC)As for the live-action costume... it's an improvement. That the trousers no longer look like bodypaint, the boots are red, and the accents don't quite appear to be plastic are all positives. On the other hand, why didn't they make the bodice the same material as the trousers? Additionally, said bodice either needs to go up a little higher, have straps, or both, else it will continue to look like a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. And even though the metal looks vaguely like metal rather than plastic, the way it is cast makes it look cheap and tacky. If I hear word that they fixed the script, I may give it a shot if it airs on a channel that is in my cable package. If not, I won't be watching it, not because I dislike Diana but because I absolutely love the character when she has a decent writer and don't want to see her acting as though she just stepped off the set of Sex and the City or some such thing.
