cyberghostface: (Spidey & MJ)
[personal profile] cyberghostface posting in [community profile] scans_daily

So in light of the recent Tangled Web post, I figured I'd post an earlier story by Tom DeFalco showing what happened to Crusher after Spider-Man defeated him. It's from Amazing Spider-Man #271 and is illustrated by Ron Frenz.

So basically Bobby isn't going to renew his wrestling contract and is going to sign with someone else. The gym owner Madame Fang and her enforcer Manslaughter Marsdale in return plan to hurt Bobby--or worse. Hogan overhears their plan and doesn't take it too well.

So there's an extended battle between Spidey and Manslaughter. Hogan attempts to help out his hero but he is knocked aside with ease. Manslaughter is able to hold his own against Spidey but in the end proves to be no match for the webslinger.

and to think, Bobby and Manslaughter would return in Dark Reign Zodiac.

With the latter implied to have beat the living shit out of the former, of all things.

That's really nothing specific to marvel.

Bobby was beat up anyway, not killed. Chances are they will have Bobby have a comeback later, they've done that in the past.

For some reason, I really like how there's a spatula sticking out of that guy on the lower left. It's more entertaining than the rest of the panel.

Oh, wait, is this the thing where the new Zodiac managed to kill every single previous member of the Zodiac gang and was carrying their heads around in a bag to prove he was the awesome one?

And who says the blacksuit makes Spidey a douche?

I think this is when he first got it, and his doucheyness was limited to beating the shit out of people that deserved it.

Truly an excellent story...

...and I'm so glad that the current Marvel brain trust has continued to favor us with brilliant Spidey stories in arcs like One More Day, Brand New Day, and One Moment In Time. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko are looking down from heaven... and smiling.

I think he meant as a pantheon of gods.

In which case, there's a sore lack of appropriate smiting being done!

Good for Peter. Thanks for posting this.

Old-school comics make me really happy sometimes.

Wow, only a $100? Inflation!

What happened to Crusher Hogan?

Obviously, he let his hair grow, grew a Fu-Mancu 'stache, bleached the crap out of them, shot him self up with enough steroids to kill a sperm whale, dropped the "Crusher" in favor of "Hulk", joined the WWF, and sold out.
