The Booth is no words

I posted a little clip from the FCBD of Umbrella Academy a few weeks ago and since then I've had the chance to read Dallas, the second collection of the series.

It's pretty good, with some interesting ideas (and some repeated ones). I kind of want to sit down and just read through both series in one go to get the full feel of the book, instead of dipping in and out over the course of a few weeks.

For the uninitiated, the Umbrella Academy are the result of mysterious births. 7 of them were adopted by the Monocle/Sir Reginald Hargreeves, 6 of them had super powers. He assembled them into a superhero team.

We begin pretty quickly, with the child Umbrella Academy against the Lincoln Monument.

The kid with the short white hair is 00.01, Spaceboy (roughly, super strength and resilience).
The blonde kid is 00.02, the Kraken, who has Batman powers
The boy with the emo hair is 00.04, Seance, who can communicate with the dead when his shoes are off.


The girl with the purple hair is 00.03, The Rumour. She can manipulate reality by saying what she wants to happen.





The statue of John Wilkes Booth is getting away!

And yes, they did use the Sic Semper Tyrannis in First Hundred Days

I'm off to have some ice cream now after I've marked some essays. It's light ice cream, but... never mind.

Technically, the Kraken's only power is that he can hold his breath indefinitely. Thus, like Batman, he can breathe in space.

I looove Umbrella Academy. It's just so charmingly different and so well-formed in terms of setting.

My friend owns the Apocalypse Suite and I own Dallas, we switch around when we feel like it.

I'm not sure, but I heard it'll be made into a movie.

Sorry, the first bit I ever read really soured me on it. I was intrigued, so I borrowed it. It was intriguing! And then it hit me in the gut. The way they treated Vanya... I think it set off every single "lonely teenage kid who is mistreated by her peers" bone remaining in my body.

And then it crushed them and snorted them like cocaine and reveled as my discomfort became anger.
