Greetings True Believers!

Here are some scans from The Mighty Thor #1 and this series looks to be very good.

I'm looking to the new relationship between Loki and Thor and of course, VOLSTAGG ups the awesome level.

Enjoy!

We open with a church service in Broxton (very worth reading) and scenes of the Silver Surfer and Galactus on their eternal journey.

Meanwhile, Odin has sent Thor and Sif to the root of the of the World Tree Yggdrasil to retrieve the Worldheart to repair the damage done in the past few adventures.

But Thor and Sif are attacked by the World Tree's "immune system" (glowing energy worms) and someone had a dream about this.

Odin has been rather dickish since his return

"Stick of Great Stabbing" YES.

They fetch the worldseed and return it to Odin.

Later Sif and Thor are in bed and talking about the day's events.

Dance Loki!

Love

1. The magic-tech armor.
2. Adorable kid-Loki who wants to save his bro.
3. Dance Dance Loki Revolution.

P.S.
"VOLSTAGGINOUS" is in the dictionary. Right now.

When is Odin not dickish?

So much to love here. Kid!Loki is almost maddeningly cute. Made up words and phrases all over the place. Tiny sliver of Thor butt. Everything says "go pick up this book!"

He seemed pretty cool in the movie. Seriously, he seemed ot be one of the nicest characters that Antony Hopkins ever played.

I love Kid!Loki, and his preoccupation for Thor! He's more than capavble of taking care of himself and Loki isn't the strongest but it's kind of cute how he wants to help him out.

Naked Thor and shota!Loki all on one page. That's either very good or very bad.

oh heck, norse is full of "kennings" - where you use various figurative language in place of a direct noun.

So, "Thor's Junk" can be represented by a HOST of glorious things!

I've always wanted a Loki on Thor's side comic!

From what I understand of Norse mythology, "trickster" was always his official position until Christianity became popular in the nordic countires, at which point he gradually came to be seen as an analogue of the Christian devil.

Which doesn't have much to do with Thor comics - unless maybe it does? - but I want to start reading about Loki and the original myths are my only frame of reference. In those, he started out as a lovable Dennis the Menace type before becoming proggressively darker until he was the Norse equivalent of the Antichcrist. It would be cool if comics swing it the other way 'round...

Dance party Loki is entirely in keeping with my idea of him. :D

There's at some evidence that RAGNAROK doesn't predate Christian (in particular Snorri Sturlsson's ) influence.

Yep, I was just going to say that! Both the major sources for the Ragnarok story were written in the 13th century, and although based on older writing, the story as we know it probably has a great deal of Christian influences.

And Loki's punishment for killing Baldr - being bound in a cave while a serpent drips venom onto him - is thought by many to come directly from the Christian image of the Antichrist bound in hell. Not to mention the fact that Baldur has basically zero presence in the surviving mythos until the story of his death, at which point he takes on all these Christ-like qualities...

Apparently scholars have a hard time pinning down exactly what Loki's 'role' or motivations are. All at once, he's an outsider because he's a Jotun, not really an Asgardian immortal. He's the god of fire, or wields it, but his very nature is of a frost giant. He's a creature of contradictions, I assume that's why he's quite literally a catalyst for events and is in general, chaotic and fluid in action and motivation.

One thing to keep in mind though, is that the Norse Trickster of Old was NOT a whoopie cushion or even stand up comedian type of guy.

The "tricks" Loki played would be regarded as fairly evil in most civilisations today.

I say assault at most, and not the life-threatening kind. Well for immortals anyway...

...I admit though, he went through pregnancy with a 8-legged foal pushed through his...well, I think THAT kinda pays SOME dues.

The "tricks" Loki played would be regarded as fairly evil in most civilisations today.

But his tricks were always reversible. Loki would start trouble, Odin or the other gods would put pressure on him, and then he would find some way or other to right his wrongs. And in some cases - the Lay of Thrym, for example - he even provided solutions to problems he had no hand in creating.

He was a force of chaos, but always a balanced chaos. The only stories in which he appears as a force of outright evil are the death of Baldr, Loki's Flyting and the story of Ragnarok, which I believe are all fairly late additions that clearly borrow from Christian mythology.

He's the guy who gets Thor out of problems he can't out-smash, and Thor's the guy that gets Loki out of problems he can't out-trick! They're the perfect pair!

Loki is the most adorable, MOST ADORABLE thing ever to be in Asgard since all the Asgardians were turned into children.

He is such a sweet kid who loves Thor so much he'll do anything for him, and by Odin he LOOKS UP TO HIM AS A BROTHER.

.... stick of great stabbing. And Volstagg has finally made his name a description.

I want to pick up this comic, for the sake of lil' Loki if nothing else.

My love of Thor has pretty much followed my love of Bill/Kelda, so with them out of things my interest waned.

Is there a particular issue number where all this Kid!Loki stuff started happening? I'd love to pick it up from the start.

I got this issue after I managed to see an advanced screening of the Thor movie. (which was awesome, btw....go see it Friday!)

Kid!Loki is damn cute and by all that is good the writers better keep him that way.

I'm torn about how Tom Hiddleston plays Loki though. Or at least the Loki they're going with so far. On one hand, I was expecting more...cunning. More, there I say it, 'troll-face-Loki'.

Granted it's suppose to be pre-OMGMYANGST Loki, so I guess it figures.

Also not sure if giving him more daddy issues over brother issues is better. Honestly I would've preferred mroe...'brother-ness' (I have no idea what word I'm going for here).

Hope this doesn't spoiler too much :(

But I actually like the front part of the movie with Loki being part of the gang and actually helping peoples :3 But a discus is really not his weapon (MORE STICK OF STABBING! OR THWACKING!)

Also question. I understand Odin being a dick, but I don't get why the Warriors 3 aren't rushing in to save Thor and Sif too with magical Norsetronaut helmets?

Unless it costs a lot to make and they only had enough to make a fun-size one.

Also Odin's not-so-subtle attempt at getting Loki chewed up by giant God-eating worms.

Ya know, I always liked regular male Loki, but I liked female Loki even more during the JMS/Kieron run. She felt more appropriate for his "snake in the grass" ways, just the smug looks she would do, or the seductive faces and body languages as the scheming is hitting full rotation. But now, I think I like Kid Loki even MORE! A mischievous little bastard, with a love of his bros and big sticks of stabbing.

The trouble is, the more blatant Loki is, the less plausible he becomes as a character, he's the god of mischief after all, if he acts like a smug git then everyone who knows he's the god of mischief wouldn't trust him an inch.

That's why, as much I enjoy it looking at it in a "this narrative is structured in a fine manner!" kind of way, my "WTF are these characters doing!?" sense goes batshit whenever the Asgardians aren't immediately punching Loki in the face before he/she/it speaks a word.

ITS LOKI

HE'S GONNA SCREW YOU OVER LIKE HE'S BEEN DOING FOR DECADES NOW

WHY DO YOU KEEP THIS GUY AROUND!?

I'd be more confident if kidLoki wasn't keeping Horcrux-Loki still around. I mean, Loki's plan was to be reborn right? Keeping that 'ghost' of him around still is just asking for so much trouble...

Actually, unless his phantom was lying in Journey into Mystery, his plan was to die. Period. Just die and be done with how predictable he had become. Kid!Loki being ressurrectd by Thor wasn't part of his plans, and the way he caused his death with such finality is part of the reason he was brought back as a kid and with only some memories of his previous incarnation - and no powers.
