Greetings True Believers!

What's nice about being an Avenger?

Ask Spidey!

Peter is fighting a Mandrill-controlled Spider-Woman while Madam Web and Shang-Chi look on.

Apparently Peter has lost his Spidey-Sense and his fighting style has suffered. But he manages to defeat Mandrill and now time for the clean-up.

Ha.

Shang-Chi offers to train Spidey. Montage time. In preparation for the whole "Island of Spiders" thing.

After teaching him some skillz, He begins to help Spidey develop a martial arts form based around his powers. "The Way of the Spider".

I'm assuming it's like, "Punch, punch, kick, web, kick, banter! banter!"

Ha! Well, when he's been constantly trashed by everyone in New York for decades, it must be absolutely awesome to have that kind of protection, so his joy is probably totally, totally warranted and not just fanboyism. ;)

Seriously, those cops deserve to be owned for their supreme lack of respect for the Spider.

"Hey Lou, should we arrest the guy who just helped us save innocent lives? Like 'cuz of a technicality of the law or somethin?"

It's also one of those things that are really, really noticeable when you read Marvel after reading nothing but DC for a while :)

Yeah, I read that and got really baffled, since I pretty much only read DC (still new to comics!). They arrest vigilantes? Unless they're with the Avengers?

Marvel, you bemuse me.

LOL that confusion was one of my favorite parts of JLA/Avengers, with the Avengers being all lolwut? when the DCU citizens mob them with autograph requests and applause for y'know, saving their lives, and with Quicksilver going "THIS world's speedster has a MUSEUM in his honor??!!!??" over and over in a jealous rage.

Marvel's citizens, government officials and most people beside the leads in general are usually a bunch of idiotic douchebags who aren't worth saving, frankly; The best instance is during Secret Invasion, where a bunch of heroes ridiculously get attacked by a bunch of civvies because they think the Skrull could be better, despite the Skrull being a warlike race who illegally and secretly infiltrated the human race specifically to subvert it to their will.

Like I say, not worth saving.

I think that's more to do with the writer of the Captain Atom crossover having very little understanding of the WSU, personally - That and the fact that the Authority in particular were meant to have gone off course once they lost Jenny Sparks as a guiding influence.

But I never particularly got the feeling any hero in the WSU was meant to hate the people, or at least they weren't meant to originally. The Wildcats, especially in the more corporate iterations, are meant to be making the world safer. The Authority might be more proactive, but they never despised the people they were saving. That Jim Lee decided to publish that series with a writer who had never touched the WSU before speaks volumes - As does the fact that the Wildstorm Universe was basically fucked after that series.
