(Request) Judge Dredd in..."Meat"

This short piece is brought to you at the request of twomasks who asked for "more Judge Dredd." The bad news is that most of the classic Judge Dredd stories are only six pages long, and even this longer piece is only ten pages. So, what can we fit in 3 1/3rds pages? As it happens, everything up to the introduction of the main character of the story. So, from Judge Dredd Megazine #298:








The narrator and main character of the story is Henry Blanch, a meat wagon worker. These are the people who clean up all the bodies after Judge Dredd is done dealing with a situation and take them to Resyk. Henry is mostly happy in his job, and enjoys working with Judge Dredd (for loose values of "with") until someone he knows personally gets killed resisting arrest. Henry goes back through the records to tally up just how many people Dredd's killed over the years. Half a billion with East-Meg One alone. "He is the angel of drokking Death." Obviously it's time for Henry to take proactive steps....

Dredd, on the other hand, *is* used to saying everything at the top of his lungs.

I was going to ask how anybody could kill half a billion people in a single lifetime, but then I remembered that Dredd nuked half of East-Meg One once upon a time.

The funny/horrible/hillarible part is Dredd is always portrayed as being in the right for his actions.

But i'm PRETTY sure Judge Dredd is meant to be satire, though.

And yes, Judge Dredd is satire, when it isn't being black comedy.

Dredd is totally a satire. That's one of the things that makes the comic so appealing.

They did actually: EastMeg One (basically the evil remnants of the USSR) launched an unprovoked invasion that killed 1/2 of MC1's population of 800 million while hiding behind a forcefield

Actually it was a universe shift field. It sent anything that touched it to a parallel Earth. Unfortunately the first things that touched it were Megacity One's nuclear missile fleet, which promptly destroyed the parallel Earth they appeared in, one which apparently was a paradise of peace.
