Turns out they didn't have to worry about them uniting their power. Because Arthur had Hippolyta assassinated on what was supposed to be their wedding day.
At some point in time Britain was conquered and all non-metas were put in concentration camps. Themyscira was devastated.
Brion tried to ally with what he saw as the lesser of two evils, Aquaman, only to be double-crossed by Mera in Orm's scheme and turned into a battery for their Geo-Pulse weapon.
New Themyscira(probably in occupied Britain) was targeted for destruction by Atlantis with the Geo-Pulse, sinking most of Western Europe but not the pillar on which the actual city of New Themyscira sits, which is shielded against the weapon. By Tara Markov.
