This issue is also offered as a special combo pack edition, polybagged with a redemption code for a digital download of the issue.
My thoughts: Well this book is a must buy. Jim Lee's art and Geoff John's writing. This will be in the top 10 rest assured. Okay so they are going with another Superman and Batman fight this time. How original. Will have to wait and see how it turns out I guess

JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #2
Written by DAN JURGENS
Art by AARON LOPRESTI and MATT RYAN
Cover by AARON LOPRESTI

The United Nations’ new international team of heroes must learn to work together – and fast – if they’re going to discover the mystery behind the giant alien Signalmen who are appearing all over the globe. Can Booster Gold lead his team to victory, or will they fall?
My thoughts: Not crazy about Boosters new costume, but this book has a lot of potential. I just hope Batman doesn't hog all the spotlight

AQUAMAN #2
Written by GEOFF JOHNS
Art and cover by IVAN REIS and JOE PRADO
On sale OCTOBER 26 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
The red-hot creative team behind BLACKEST NIGHT and BRIGHTEST DAY reunite!
An entire town…devoured! As Aquaman and Mera discover the grisly truth behind a town’s disappearance, the Trench infestation spreads inland! Plus: Another gruesome Trench power revealed – and it’s not for the squeamish!
My thoughts: Really looking forward to this book. Aquaman has been coming on very strong lately. The artwork looks superb.

THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #2
Written by ETHAN VAN SCIVER and GAIL SIMONE
Art by YILDIRAY CINAR
Cover by ETHAN VAN SCIVER
On sale OCTOBER 26 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Three innocent high school kids are caught in the crosshairs of an international special forces team with orders to murder them in cold blood…until two of those teenagers summon the terrifying, living nuclear monstrosity known as the Fury of Firestorm! Do not miss this disturbing look into the future of super powers in the DC Universe!
My Thoughts: This could be good. I mean Gail is writing it. But why the hell does Firestorm look like a freaking Yugioh monster?!?!?!?!?

MISTER TERRIFIC #2
Written by ERIC WALLACE
Art by GIANLUCA GUGLIOTTA
Cover by J.G. JONES
On sale OCTOBER 12 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
An electrifying new villain joins the DCU! Meet Brainstorm, the man determined to bring Los Angeles to its knees – beginning with billionaire Michael Holt. But even if he can break this new enemy’s hold on an unsuspecting city, how can Mister Terrific defeat a foe even smarter than himself? Luckily, the last time he faced a problem he couldn’t solve, he perfected infinite fractal mechanics!
My Thoughts: this book looks surprisingly good! So Michael is a billionare now? Okay I guess I can live with that. I had to google infinite fractale mechanics. And after a lot of digging it seems that fractal mechanics might actually be a real thing. Not positive. And after a half hour of searching I don't really want to do any more research on the matter. I just hope Wallace doesn't take Michael in an absurd deus ex machina genius direction like Reed Richards. I'm hoping for more Doctor Who meets James Bond meets McGuyver/Tony Stark here personally. Brainstorm is kind of a cliche name, but its not terrible, its up there with the calculator and other mediocre Batman villain names. Also I do like how Mister Terrific is on the west coast now, and centered in LA. We really haven't had a DC book focused in that area in quite some time.

THE SAVAGE HAWKMAN #2
Written by TONY S. DANIEL
Art and cover by PHILIP TAN
On sale OCTOBER 26 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
When the alien creature known as Morphicius starts draining the life force from Carter Hall, a.k.a. Hawkman, he learns that there’s more to his new victim than meets the eye. The mysterious properties of the Nth Metal protect Hawkman – but in the process, they are also making Morphicius powerful! With innocent lives in the balance, can Hawkman turn the table on his enemy, or are Morphicius newfound powers too powerful to stop?
My thoughts: I was never a big Hawkman guy but this cover looks awesome. I may give it a shot.

STATIC SHOCK #2
Written by SCOTT McDANIEL and JOHN ROZUM
Art by SCOTT McDANIEL and ANDY OWENS
Cover by CHRIS BRUNNER
On sale OCTOBER 5 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Static finds himself the target of dark forces as Virule and the Slate Gang unleash their deadly trap! Will Static’s debut end before it has even started?
My Thoughts: This is a must buy. Rozum is sure to be in top form. He is superb on Zombi. Hope McDaniel steps up his game a little he could be a treat. Also very smart moving Virgil to NYC. This book is long overdue, Static has so much potential for the DCU.

Date: 2011-07-15 06:02 am (UTC)It looks like with this series they're playing around with the Firestorm concept--Ronnie and Jason can access the powers on their own and look like the past version of Firestorm when doing so, but now when they combine together, they look like this ten-foot tall hulking monster.
I think it's kinda clever--I remember seeing on here when Brightest Day was coming out people complaining about the coloring of Firestorm looking too white when there's both a white and a black man in there, so having it where they both have their own power and having them look inhuman when combined is a clever way of getting around that.
Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to a lot of these. I mean, yeah, Batman vs. Superman is old hat, but who knows, maybe Johns has a unique spin on it.
And considering that they haven't really mentioned him in the solicits at all, I'm sure that Batman isn't taking over JLI--he's probably going to be a big player and probably the most veteran of members, but it definitely seems like Booster's team.

Mr. Terrific# 2 Michael Holt finally discovers who stole his jacket and beats the bricks off of them. I honestly think he still has it, I mean his costume on both covers has not changed they just took the jacket off revealing how awesome leather jackets are.
Static Shock# 2 Virgil finally goes to see the new TRON movie. I hope Richie is in this.

Date: 2011-07-15 12:52 pm (UTC)Also is Supes breaking the fourth wall? Why is he looking at the reader rather than the guy he's beating on?
But Firestorm looks very interesting. That'll be a definite read for me.

Date: 2011-07-15 04:05 pm (UTC)And why does Batman have Batskull kneepads? And... separated spiked knuckles? Man, that has to hurt HIM when he hits someone. What are those random bars on the back of his neck? What is that weird teardrop shape on his forearm? GAHHH sorry I cannot hate the overdone costumes enough.
Superman kinda looks like his brain isn't present. He looks like he's not looking at Batman and not really exerting any effort.
