What happens when the World’s Greatest Detective takes on the world’s most powerful alien? You’ll find out when Batman and Superman throw down. Batman will need all his intellect, cunning and physical prowess to take on The Man of Steel.

This issue is also offered as a special combo pack edition, polybagged with a redemption code for a digital download of the issue.

My thoughts: Well this book is a must buy. Jim Lee's art and Geoff John's writing. This will be in the top 10 rest assured. Okay so they are going with another Superman and Batman fight this time. How original. Will have to wait and see how it turns out I guess

The United Nations’ new international team of heroes must learn to work together – and fast – if they’re going to discover the mystery behind the giant alien Signalmen who are appearing all over the globe. Can Booster Gold lead his team to victory, or will they fall?

My thoughts: Not crazy about Boosters new costume, but this book has a lot of potential. I just hope Batman doesn't hog all the spotlight

An electrifying new villain joins the DCU! Meet Brainstorm, the man determined to bring Los Angeles to its knees – beginning with billionaire Michael Holt. But even if he can break this new enemy’s hold on an unsuspecting city, how can Mister Terrific defeat a foe even smarter than himself? Luckily, the last time he faced a problem he couldn’t solve, he perfected infinite fractal mechanics!

My Thoughts: this book looks surprisingly good! So Michael is a billionare now? Okay I guess I can live with that. I had to google infinite fractale mechanics. And after a lot of digging it seems that fractal mechanics might actually be a real thing. Not positive. And after a half hour of searching I don't really want to do any more research on the matter. I just hope Wallace doesn't take Michael in an absurd deus ex machina genius direction like Reed Richards. I'm hoping for more Doctor Who meets James Bond meets McGuyver/Tony Stark here personally. Brainstorm is kind of a cliche name, but its not terrible, its up there with the calculator and other mediocre Batman villain names. Also I do like how Mister Terrific is on the west coast now, and centered in LA. We really haven't had a DC book focused in that area in quite some time.

When the alien creature known as Morphicius starts draining the life force from Carter Hall, a.k.a. Hawkman, he learns that there’s more to his new victim than meets the eye. The mysterious properties of the Nth Metal protect Hawkman – but in the process, they are also making Morphicius powerful! With innocent lives in the balance, can Hawkman turn the table on his enemy, or are Morphicius newfound powers too powerful to stop?

My thoughts: I was never a big Hawkman guy but this cover looks awesome. I may give it a shot.

Static finds himself the target of dark forces as Virule and the Slate Gang unleash their deadly trap! Will Static’s debut end before it has even started?

My Thoughts: This is a must buy. Rozum is sure to be in top form. He is superb on Zombi. Hope McDaniel steps up his game a little he could be a treat. Also very smart moving Virgil to NYC. This book is long overdue, Static has so much potential for the DCU.

Seconded. I really liked is older, jacketed look. I thought the red, black and white were much better balanced and utilized there in addition to its more impressive and distinctive silhouette.

"But why the hell does Firestorm look like a freaking Yugioh monster?!?!?!?!?"

It looks like with this series they're playing around with the Firestorm concept--Ronnie and Jason can access the powers on their own and look like the past version of Firestorm when doing so, but now when they combine together, they look like this ten-foot tall hulking monster.

I think it's kinda clever--I remember seeing on here when Brightest Day was coming out people complaining about the coloring of Firestorm looking too white when there's both a white and a black man in there, so having it where they both have their own power and having them look inhuman when combined is a clever way of getting around that.

Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to a lot of these. I mean, yeah, Batman vs. Superman is old hat, but who knows, maybe Johns has a unique spin on it.

And considering that they haven't really mentioned him in the solicits at all, I'm sure that Batman isn't taking over JLI--he's probably going to be a big player and probably the most veteran of members, but it definitely seems like Booster's team.

That actually sounds really intriguing. A different take on the character (partially uncontrolled threat, probably due to the two not working together yet) under Gail's pen has promise.

To be fair, it's Nu!Superman and Nu!Batman, this sort of thing is a basic setup and comparison of their two big names. (An entire issue of "Man of Steel" was devoted to this, and that series was only six issues long)

There are a surprising amount of great Superman and Batman stories, like the New Frontier.
I'm still taking the wait and see approach.

I think that the New Frontier version of Supes and Batman facing off is the only version of the premise, where Batman holds his own, that I could buy.

This cover also explores the deep existential mystery of whether a Green Lantern can imagine something so strong that Superman can't break it. If they'd asked me, I'd've said "of course GL can do that". But perhaps not.

Brainstorm's not new. He's that dude who wore a rather unfortunate helmet that looked like the illegimitate love child of a dildo and a screwdriver.

Which I hope he still does, because otherwise, this all kind of bores me. I mean, really... Superman vs Batman? Did they let the DC Message Boards co-write that one?

The Firestorm cover looks like Maxwell Lord with a gun versus Firestorm.

(Which strangely enough would be an interesting matchup: Maxwell Lord is one of the few people that can give Firestorm an interesting battle without requiring Firestorm to be a complete idiot.)

JLA #2 Pretty superman is whooping pretty Batman's ass while pretty Green Lantern is trying to break it up. They will fight, property damage will occur, They will resolve the issue at hand, and batman will pay for the property damage leaving superman the winner.

Aquaman#2 The king of the sea shalt not be trifled with ye scurvy sea dogs.

Mr. Terrific# 2 Michael Holt finally discovers who stole his jacket and beats the bricks off of them. I honestly think he still has it, I mean his costume on both covers has not changed they just took the jacket off revealing how awesome leather jackets are.

Static Shock# 2 Virgil finally goes to see the new TRON movie. I hope Richie is in this.

Oh goody. Another Supes vs. Bats throwdown. ("yay" ala Fluttershy)

Also is Supes breaking the fourth wall? Why is he looking at the reader rather than the guy he's beating on?

But Firestorm looks very interesting. That'll be a definite read for me.

JLA no 2 elicits a big yawn from me. Revamps and reboots and we're still getting the same, tired old story of Batman fighting Superman, presumably under some misunderstanding or mind control? And we all know Batman isn't going to lose, otherwise he loses permanently, so what's the point? YAWN.

God, Superman vs. Batman, the cover. WHY. WHY MORE LINES. WHY DID YOU FEEL THE NEED TO ADD MORE GODDAMN LINES TO YOUR NEWLY-OVERLINED COSTUMES?! Because even the artistic technique needs to use MORE LINES CLEARLY *froth*

And why does Batman have Batskull kneepads? And... separated spiked knuckles? Man, that has to hurt HIM when he hits someone. What are those random bars on the back of his neck? What is that weird teardrop shape on his forearm? GAHHH sorry I cannot hate the overdone costumes enough.

Superman kinda looks like his brain isn't present. He looks like he's not looking at Batman and not really exerting any effort.

The only way I'd be up for another Superman/Batman fight is if it ends one second in by Superman zipping behind Batman at super speed and then flicking him in the back of the skull, knocking him unconscious for about a week.

Ooh, another Batman vs Superman fight! Sure, it looks all dramatic on the cover, but the interior is just gonna be ten pages of Batman kicking Superman in the groin while holding chunk of kryptonite.

Just like every other Superman/Batman fight.

Scott McDaniel on Static Shock seems like a good fit. Static being such a dynamic and stylized character will really benefit from McDaniel's style. He's also got a degree in electrical engineering which will probably help.
