heh i know i know... I'm a literature major who's all time favorite stories were ancient Myths (Myths to comics, go figure) and it was full of it... i still find it hard to get past in comics.... its weird i know... eh, im over it now lol

To be honest, I think it was really up in the air whether Marvel!Hela was Marvel!Loki's for a bit. They never ever really bring up the fact of how exactly does Loki be the father of the Death goddess, which means that before he was adopted by Odin somehow there wasn't a Death goddess?

the same goes for the Myth though... she's still the goddess of Hel, and keeps a portion of the dead (i am guess those that do not go to Valhalla)

The way I understood it was that Hel was just so damn freaky the gods wanted to get rid of her so they made her godess of the dead.

in the actual Myth or in comics...? in the Poetic Eda it was more along the lines that Loki's children were prophesized to bring trouble. so they kinda put them out of the way... (though one would think why give so much power to one you are exiling...) anyways. Hel got dominion over 2/3 of the dead.

I've been reading old Thor comics vol.1 The Mighty Thor #100-#400, the only time Loki openly refers to Hela as his daughter and she recognizes him as her father is during the Walt Simonson run, before that Loki when talking to Hela would call her by her name or Death Godess. There's only one instance were he refers to her as "The Death Godess some call my daughter" and then this one issue were he pisses off his brother, Thor yells at him "I'll reunite you with your daughter in Hel"

But it's confusing considering you had flashbacks of Thor and Loki as kids and Loki uses her name in exclamations by saying things like "By Hela's cold touch!" I mean if he is her father....What?

I just read "Loki: Blood Blothers" by Esad Ribic, which I'm not sure if is canon, but in it Loki and Karnilla looks through alternate realities and express surprise and discomfort that there are worlds where Loki is the father of Hela herself. That was sort of an explanation for the differences between actual myths and Marvel Asgard, such as Loki being son/brother of Odin.

It's a good read with truly beautiful art. Paints a three dimensional picture of Loki and his motivations and relationships. Highly recommended.
