Killgrave is one of my favorite villains: he's a snappy dresser and he really is a irredeemable hedonistic monster. He's made big plays in the marvel universe and is someone that Marvel superheroes almost universally despise.

He's also someone we love to see get beat up, as we see behind the cut.

P. man mindcontrols Elektra to kill the Shroud.

"I'm a ninja." Now that's a cool response to any "How" question you could ask. How did you survive that fall? I'm a Ninja. How did you jump over that train? I'm a Ninja? How did- NINJA.

I wish I was a ninja. I like hiding in the shadows, as a matter of fact I'm right behind you!

Yeah, I'm sure he's probably done that at some point.

Heck, the Batman Begins scene, where he dupes Liam Neeson's character into grabbing the wrong ninja, is probably close enough to count..

What about the bit where the thug is firing in all directions after Batman grabbed all of his friends from the shadows one by one?
Thug: WHERE ARE YOU?!?
Batman (hangs upside down behind him): Here.
Thug: AA- *is grabbed*

Yeah, but as great an intro as that was, they were just your garden variety dumbo thugs..A dime a dozen in Gotham city I'd imagine.

Though having said that, even with Ninja's there is that oft quoted rule about Ninja's being less less and effective the more there are of them.
In fact is that a tv trope rule? I would go checking myself, but the last time I did that hours vanished before I knew it! (I swear that internet site just swallows time! ;) )

It's not as cool as you might think.

Oh, sure, simple things. Day to day ninja-ing. But eventually, it gets kinda stale.

And then there are the smart alecks. "Why didn't you dodge that bullet? Aren't you a ninja? Can't you just walk through walls? No? What kind of ninja are you? Hold your breath for 5 minutes? You mean you can't do it longer?"

Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; listen, you give it a try, some time. It's not as easy as we make it look.

And people are always jumping when they finally notice me. It's annoying.

"Gah! Don't do that?"
"What?"
"Sneak up on me!"
"I didn't. I've been standing still in the kitchen for ten minutes. You have crappy peripheral vision."

Hey! The Shroud is still around? Cool. I've loved him ever since he appeared back in Marvel Supervillian Team-Up. I don't know why, I've always just thought he was kind of awesome.

Hmm..Nice but..

As cool a moment as this is. I don't think Purple Man's power works that way. Or at least not just that way. I think his chemicals work by getting absorbed through the skin as well breathed in. And since Elektra shows plenty of skin...well..

(Maybe the writer's mixing up his power with the Mandrill's?)

Having said that, maybe this is one of those heroic will power defeating evil mind control moments? I which case, way to go girl! As no disrespect to the Shroud, but if I had to bet on one of those two being strong enough to do so, it would be Elektra. She's always been kind of stubborn..to say the least LOL!

Well, his powers have been seen to be defeated by acts of epic willpower before, most notably Doctor Doom's classic moment of awesome.

I always did love that moment..

Though Doom despite putting his helmet down, (ooh er!..) was showing a lot less skin than Elektra. And thus probably to some degree still a bit shielded by his armour..

But then, I'm sure Daredevil's resisted Purple man's power before. Though again Matt shows a lot less skin than Elektra's free flowing sash style outfits. (There's still a twisted part of me that wishes Jennifer Garniers outfit had been closer to the comic book incarnation, despite the real world unlikeliness of it. Still wouldn't have saved that movie though..)

Why was Luke Cage immune to his powers? Is it because of his bulletproof skin?

When Cage picked up the job as warden of the Raft, he received a nano-injection that was specifically meant to immunize him from the Purple Man's powers.

Maybe they should have just explained it as "Ninja tricks?" Or, you know, the fact that when it comes to an (ex?) Hand ninja/leader, the Purple Man doesn't know from mind control.

I remember Daredevil resisting Purple Man's influence way back when Zebby first showed up, but back then, he theorized that the control was partially visible (Zebby calls it his Purple Power on the cover), and his blindness gave him an edge.

In other words..

He reused his old Ringmaster excuse. (Daredevil was unaffected by Ringmasters hat in one of the early spiderman crossovers because he couldn't be hypnotized, on account of being y'know blind and all..)

But I hadn't realised that there was any comic that said Purple Man's power was partially visible..Thinking that must be a little bit of an anomaly..

Unless of course Daredvil doesn't want anyone to know that he's a SECRET NINJA!! ;)

Should be handy if the SECRET Avengers is the team he ends up in! LOL!

Elektra doesn't have the super strength of She Hulk, Valkyrie, or even Spiderwoman. So I'd imagine that she makes up for her lack of physical super powers there, by really working out to keep herself in tip top condition..

It's entirely appropriate, hence my enjoyment of it.

...While I'm on the topic of the art, one criticism I'd make is that the blows could feel more convincing. The kicks kind of feel like... movie kicks, like she's kicking the area right next to him and then he's flying back of his own accord.

I mean if you're gonna draw someone kicking the shit out of the Purple Man, I wanna really feel how hard someone's kicking the shit out of the purple man, you know? Show me that elbow going right into his big, stupid face, make me enjoy how much that hurts him.

Yep! Especially given her favourite weapons..

It’s a pet peeve of mine, how most Electra artists draw her in Standard Impossible Teenage Fantasy Body which should break in half with the things she do. So I’m always happy to see someone unafraid of drawing in the muscles she should have.

I like the Purple Man because he insists on going by "the Purple Man" when his last name is Killgrave. Killgrave. That is an awesome last name. He could totally just call himself that (it would be a lot better then "Jean Grey") and if anyone tries to say it's too 90's, he'd just respond with, "Yeah, well, that's my real name." But no, he'd rather go by the much lamer Purple Man.

LOL! Good point! Certainly never met anyone in real life with a name that sinister!

But then according to Bendis he thinks of himself as a comic book character. Something which has never made much sense to me, but at least it would excuse the corniness of his supervillian name!
