Andre Briggs, the head of U.N. intelligence, a man who wants to reassemble the Justice League in a new configuration, on that it will be easier to control them.
I really enjoyed this issue. There was a good group dynamic and you get a good sense of where the book is going. Not loving Booster's new costume, but whatever. Maybe it'll grow on me.
I don't think it's blown a hole in the wall, it just started the fire. They also state that's ammunition in the box, not explosives, but they could be incendiary rounds, so they'd be relying on the fire to do damage.
I actually wonder if what happened in Booster Gold (with him trying to stop Babs from getting paralysed) is still canon and if Bruce still knows about it. Colour me interested.
Thundermind was also a Global Guardian and there's three of them on the new JLI (Godiva, Fire, Ice), so with four friends in the JLI, I hope Thundermind shows up.
"Ignore them. They're just a bunch of thin-skinned writers who can't accept that "basement dwellers" might have some legitimate points in their criticism."
(What, do they think that everyone mad about them de-Oracling Babs is just going, "THEY CHANGED IT, NOW IT SUCKS!" or something?)
Not sure how I feel about this. From what I got this really does retcon the entire previous JLI, and it seems like Didio has all but confirmed Ted Kord doesn't exist. I'm really sad about this. :(
This. I love Jaime (who I think I remember getting mentioned as still being around) but I seriously miss me some old skool Beetle/Booster bromance. Why no Ted, DC? He's been dead over five years, which is FOREVER in comic terms.
Ah for the days when crazy people didn't assume that the UN was some international conspiracy to start wars and mess with people, instead of being kind of underfunded and not as powerful as they should be.
I do think that this is an interesting change from the original Stormwatch though, in that there WAS a shady group of UN guys that the organisation answered to who were implied to secret control the world (at least until that guy with the bionic knees killed them to show how hardcore the new series was). Here it at least seems to be the case of it being more helping people than control, even though it does half a tinge of the Avengers Initiative about it.
Hey hey hey! The new costume does actually look like a giant pajama! I knew it!
So it is a continuation of Generation Lost afterall...? The only one who hasn't changed costumes is Guy (like the rest of the GL part of the DCU) and Ice continues to wear that ugly redesign from Generation lost... Though I do like Vixen's :'3
She's Godiva. She's new. I think some olllllld time readers with good memories may know who she is. I don't. Unlike Stormwatch, which threw exposition at us so we knew who every character was, we barely know anything about her.
Not perfect, but it's trying. I like the characters and I like seeing superheroes generally working together.
Also: good to see one of the Great Ten actually on an international team. The August General is kind of a jerk, though. Of the members of the Ten, I would have thought him the least likely to join (though he was almost certainly ordered to)...but as the leader of the Ten, I assumed he'd be up for that position here (but he's never had his own title, so that wasn't going to happen).
I'm hoping China will rotate in different members. Make the Socialist Red Guardmen annoy the yankees by being overly communist when he starts getting on people's nerves in China, send Accomplished Perfect Physician when he starts annoying everyone b not being communist enough. Thundermind to show the world how great their Superman is.
This was one of only a small number of DCnU titles I was planning on trying out, although I originally only expected to stay with it for maybe six issues. In the end, I didn't make it for two.
It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either, to be honest. Nothing about it really grabbed me. And the thing is, I didn't love Generation Lost either, but that at least had the nostalgia factor working for it. This doesn't even have that.
And it wasn't the gratuitous insult, either. There's just nothing interesting to me about this story.
Hmm. This isn't one I was planning to pick up--never really dug Jurgen's past work--but these scans don't look so bad. I might pick this up in trade if it keeps up.
