Logan and Cyclops ought to listen to Idie sometimes.
No shit, Prodigy. Oh wait, that's because you were scared shitless of Hope. Nevermind that, that was great characterization of you.
I'm just so weirdly happy to see X-kids interact with one another :)

On the other hand, it's a direct punch to the emotional groin to see how few there are left and how horribly tramuatized/injured the remaining kids are.
Academy X were some of the first comics I ever owned and I recently went home and got the chance to read them again. It's such a bittersweet thing...

Date: 2011-09-22 08:46 am (UTC)I would have loved to see the Academy X kids making their choice because it sounds like it would make one compelling parallel between how Hope runs her team. From the clues we get, it sounds like there was a fairly adult discussion about the relative merits and detractions of staying to defend Utopia, and it's one between friends given that Santo was cracking jokes and while Julian disagreed strongly against it, he's still going along with the group consensus. While there's tension, it's not tension that is simmering hatred but a disagreement.
That's to be contrasted with how Hope runs her team. Everyone's commented on how she used her powers to coerce Laurie, but it's even worse than that. She coerces Laurie with her powers and then uses psychological manipulation to get Idie to work with them by resting her hand on her shoulder and playing on her need for a family, and then uses Laurie's desire to protect Idie to get her to stay. It's horrible. They're not a team for her, they're tools for her to coerce and manipulate as she sees fit.
It's interesting, given that the Academy X kids had three leaders (Nori, David and Julian) and Hope is basically a dictator.
