Greetings True Believers!
Here are a couple scans from the latest issue of this Avengers mini.
I'm conflicted about it.
But DOOM! is always enjoyable.
Enjoy!
I do love this cover.

I add a thought bubble in my version, "Yes, DOOM hits this on a regular basis."
Anyway. The Avengers and the X-Men have "Shut up! No, you shut up!" super-fight and Wanda puts the whammy on them all and transports herself and the Young Avengers to a place of safety...

But it isn't! Turns out in a TWIST! that Wanda's Psycho-outing was partially caused by Victor. Wanda came to him after her children "died" and he helped her control the "Life Force" and it didn't work out. One House of M later Doom's scouts found Wanda and brought her to him.
Wanda wants to restore the mutant race and then be rid of this extra power. Victor promises to help her do so.

Wiccan, Wanda and Doom begin their mojo but Patriot interferes and disrupts the ceremony. Big boom and Wanda gasps that all that extra power is gone. Where did it go??

Oh, we're doing Secret Wars now? Ok, just so we're clear.

Is the Victor/Wanda thing something that was previously established, or new to this story?
Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; because . . . . it makes a terrifying amount of sense, while at the same time makes utterly no sense.

Date: 2011-09-23 02:42 am (UTC)He is looking for someone he doesn't have to talk down to.
Problem is when you're in Victor's league, who can interact with you on your level?
This is an important part of his relationship with Reed too. Victor wants to destroy him but I'm sure part of him is relucant because if Reed is good, Victor is just that much more alone.

Date: 2011-09-22 10:51 pm (UTC)In general Doom tends to be pretty magnanimous around pretty, powerful women. Storm and him have a pretty hilarious dinner "date" in an early Claremont comic. It goes horrible wrong of course, but you can't blame him for trying.

Date: 2011-09-23 01:47 am (UTC)Wanda is potentially a stronger magic user than he.
That would inspire jealousy (not that Doom would call it that), which would lead to MAXIMOFF!!! rather than "ooo, Maximoff . . ."
Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; of course, at scans_daily, they're the same thing . . .

Date: 2011-09-23 02:12 am (UTC)It probably would never work, for sure, but Doom is a complicated monster. The last three people in the world he ever gave a damn about were his parents, and Valeria. His dad, Werner is why Gypsies are given sanctuary in Latveria, and he takes care of Latverians at all. His mother is why he studies magic, and Valeria is why he'll eventually always be alone.
But Wanda is uniquely positioned to appeal to Doom. Not only is she a powerful resource, but she was raised by the Maximoffs, a Romani family. How could Doom spend time with her, and not remember the songs of his childhood? His mother's magic, his father's kumpania, she's a link to the last good part of his life.
