And yes, there are a number of grey areas, like Cable (appeared as a baby in 1986, appeared as cable in 1991) and Legion.

I was thinking of Northstar and Forge or even - has Callisto ever counted as an X-Man?

Northstar and Alpha Flight debuted in 1979, so he's just a little early for the 80's. Forge qualifies though.

Callisto, Caliban, Sunder, Annalee and indeed the entirety of the Morlocks, first appeared in the 1980's but Callisto has only been in the Genoshan Excalibur series as a team member.

The Morlock called Sunder on the other hand, was actually a member of the short lived 1990's "Muir Island X-Men" (Forge, Legion, Polaris (during her never explained no-magnetism but superstrong phase) Allysande Stuart, Banshee and Amanda Sefton)

Maybe it's semantics, but I am defining X-Man as a person on an X-Man team. New Mutants are that: New Mutants. Not X-Men.
