Three pages from #11 of Volume 1 of Runaways, showing that once upon a time, Takeshi Miyazawa drew Chase looking like a guy. This story arch was actually Miyazawa's first time doing the Runaways.
Again, apologies for the size of the scans. I continue to battle Photobucket on this.
This volume was so, so, so good. I'm not saying the ensuing volumes/stories were bad, but I don't think its come close to topping that first storyline in any regard.
Admit it, you're pretty excited about this being turned in to a movie.
3 was horrid, 2... meh, the acting and story were kind of bland IMO. I just generally don't like the Spider-man movies. You're entitled to your own opinion, but I think Marvel's made more misses than hits movie-wise.
I'm just apprehensive of them casting a bunch of Highschool Musical teeny-boppers in an over-budgeted action movie. BKV working on the movie isn't as comforting now that we've had more news of the Avatar movie (which also has it's creators working on the film.)
Well, I share your opinion to the extent that I liked Spider-man 3 more than 2 (I'm sorry, fandom, all the casting fail was painfully obvious in a movie with less explosions, fights and webslinging to distract me), but then I liked Spider-man 3 the best of the bunch.
I'm more cautious than anything about the movie, and I absolutely refuse to get my hopes up. I came of age watching things like the Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk stuff, and the ORIGINAL Punisher movie (which starred the guy who played He-Man in the Masters of the Universe movie), so I know how bad things can be.
I've also heard from other people that the series didn't pick up until the 2nd volume. I've even read one reviewer that insisted that the first volume was an outrageous piece of crap, unworthy to be mentioned even in the same sentence as the next two volumes.
Feige has said "In our discussions with Brian, we wanted him to be the person to bring it to life. I think it won't be a precise story line of any [of his comics], but certainly it will be most similar to the tone or origins of his structure in its initial run"
I'm looking forward to the movie. I think it'll help that the first volume has a definitive beginning, middle and end and a strong cohesive storyline. Start at point A, end up at point B. As soon as the second volume started as an ongoing, all that cohesiveness was lost. There was always that sense of making it up as it went along that's been continued since, with arcs instead of one overall arching storyline. In that respect the first volume was pretty unusual anyway. But it made anything that came after less gripping.
Runaways never lost quality under BKV, but it did lose tightness and direction.

Your millage may vary.

Personally, I liked them all equally.
