3 months in, and my how the tables have turned.

With DCnU relaunch and the domination of most of their titles across the comic book distrubutors, the mighty House of Ideas is feeling the blows. Here is a list of the titles that will be cancelled and/or will never see the light of day after February 2012.

ComicBookResources has the article discussing the latest on the growing line of titles to fall.

Daken, Dark Wolverine will end.

From the article:
"In a just-published interview with Comic Book Resources, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso revealed Daken: Dark Wolverine will be coming to an end, following a wave of cancellations that includes X-23 and Ghost Rider.

Although he didn’t indicate when the series will conclude, February’s Issue 21 is billed as “Issue one of the story the series has been leading up to,” suggesting the beginning of the final arc...."

it continues....

"... The Daken: Dark Wolverine news follows word of the conclusions of PunisherMAX and Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive, and the cancellations of Ghost Rider, X-23, Alpha Flight, Victor Von Doom, Destroyers, Iron Man 2.0 and All-Winners Squad."

Daken is joining the ranks of these other titles,

Add in x-23 too. *sigh* I really wonder what the HECK is going on behind the scenes at Marvel. Running scared? Planning a DCnU like relaunch? What?

I think we can safely assume Daken and Laura will show up in other books. In fact I imagine the reason X-23 was cancelled over Avengers Academy (which has lower numbers) is that they figure they can get X-23 readers to pick up AA for Laura, this getting one book with overall better numbers.

I have no idea why X-Factor and Thunderbolts aren't getting cancelled. Presumably Jeff Parker and Peter David know where the bodies are buried.

That, or they're planning on switching creative teams. I guess both X-factor and T-bolts have value as IP's in a way solo books don't? Dunno.

For X-Factor, I'd imagine it's the fact that, even though their sales are low, they're really stable at the moment, so prepping for another arc of X-Factor stories is probably a safe bet. Likewise Avengers Academy.

Going with that theory, wrapping (as examples) X-23 and Dark Wolverine's books after the current arcs makes sense, as their sales were still sliding down. And Alpha Flight took a big hit after it lost the Fear Itself logo, almost doubling its losses between one month and the next; it's no wonder the status as an ongoing was revoked.

Yeah, X-23 is one of the better books Marvel has been producing of late. It's a real shame that it's being cancelled.

Nice artwork, good writing, and it was selling relatively well too. Makes me wonder just what criteria Marvel use for deciding whether something is a success.

Though, at the moment, it seems like nearly anything that doesn't have "Avengers" in the title is under threat.

Still, Winter Soldier begins in February, so at least I'll have one Marvel book to buy.
