Now that they've published 4 stories, I'll post another excerpt from the Marvel Holiday Special 2011, still featuring Kitty Pryde, but this time she's playing second fiddle to the Ever-Loving Blue Eyed Thing




There is smashing, and Ben investigates. He tracks a string of festive thefts until he gets to a big guy making off with a tree, some lights and assorted presents.


Then the children of the Yancy Street Children's Home come out to tell Ben that it's all a mistake and the big guy was trying to give them a good Christmas by stealing things.

So...

Chinese buffet for orphans and Jews alike!

I'm slightly disappointed that Kitty is wearing her X-men outfit and not her headmistress clothes


According to Wikipedia, our ensemble could include Magneto (duh), Gert, Doc Samson, Justice, but makes no mention of Veda. Sad face.

just from seeing the tags I knew it was something involving the Jews of Marvel. Sabra could've been there too but she probably spends most if not all her time in Israel.

Didn't know Wiccan was Jewish either.

re Wiccan, I don't believe they've ever addressed it in the comics, but Heinberg answered positive when asked about it in an interview.

Yeah, I wondered about that. Marc had an Orthodox Rabbi as a father... who he had a really, REALLY strained relationship with. Conflicts about his faith is kind of his M.O. He's never really reconciled with his Jewish heritage.

I really wish they'd explore more of that aspect of him in comics. He never really got serious about the "faith" aspect of a mad Egyptian moon god worshipper until Charlie Huston's run.

To be honest, considering that he's got a significant role in the maxiseries that will possibly lead into next year's big event, I don't really see how he's in a position to be forgotten

Is there anything to suggest that Thing and Shadowcat have, y'know, ever even actually talked to each other before this issue, never mind sorting out a Channukah get-together?

I'm sure that I've seen Ben and Kitty speak to each other before, but I have no idea when or where.

They're not celebrating Hanukkah, exactly... Although this year, Christmas happens to fall in the middle of the 8 day period (it wasn't last year and it won't be next year).

They're doing Jewish Christmas on Christmas Day, hence Ben's comment about the streets being empty. In New York, on Christmas everything closes for the holiday except all the Chinese restaurants, so it became a tradition for New York Jews to go out and have Chinese food dinners on Christmas.

I know they must have been around each other when Reed was helping keep Kitty from going *poof* in that X-Men vs. Fantastic Four miniseries, but I don't recall if they actually spoke to each other on panel before.

They've known each other since Uncanny X-Men Annual #4 or #5, which is the one where the FF and X-Men team up to rescue Arkon from the Badoon. There's a cute scene at the end where Ben is amazed that Kitty can follow Reed's constant stream of technobabble.

And speaking of holiday wishes, I'm still wondering who the heck we have to bribe to actually see that story.

Although let's be fair to her, the kids are more likely to go "Yay! Superhero!" than "Yay! Headmistress in a rather natty professional suit!"

I can't help it, the idea of a practicing Jew (rather than the non-practicing, cultural sort) calling themselves "Wiccan" makes me facepalm. It's times like this that I'm reminded of how much that bugs me.

To be fair, Heinberg gave the in universe explanation that Billy wanted to change his name to mean 'male witch' and since Warlock is taken, he went with Wiccan.

I can give the boy a pass since he's young.
