Awesome! New Supreme is on the way! Even if Erik Larsen's art is nothing compared to Chris Sprouse and Rick Veitch's, it's still written by Alan Moore! After more than a decade, his run is finally being completed! To celebrate, I'm posting one of my favourite moments from the series.

Supreme and Diana enjoy some quality time at her apartment watching Friends:

Because all TV comes out live.

Even sitcoms recorded in front of a studio audience

So, he's blackmailing television networks for a million dollars (*pinky to the side of the mouth*) by using technology they'd pay billions to acquire?

Can you imagine how much people would be willing to pay for a package deal of that and the Baywatch DVD-collection?

Well, when you get down to that, you could say the same about the vast majority of supervillains. Couldn't the Vulure sell his tech to the military for billions? Couldn't Paste-Pot-Pete be a billionaire by now if he'd just patented his pastes? Captain Cold? The Mirror Master? The Shocker? Event Stilt-Man could profit from his inventions, rather than using them to steal.

Trust me, the ones of those that only steal to gain money make very little sense in most cases.

Well, most of those are in the supervillain business because of "the game", Rogues in particular. And then there's the ones that became villains because they couldn't patent their inventions.

But, yes, it's a trope.

Here we are...

Well, in his defense, Televillain spent the last few decades trapped in Supreme's Mirror-Dimension prison. He started out back in the 50s, where he was just a thief with a gimmick tied to a newfangled gadget (TVs) that nobody really took all that seriously.

I don't think he ever considered just how much -power- was now available to him, seeing how omnipresent Television is nowadays.

Essentially, I always imagined that following this scene, Phoebe calmly strode in and snapped the Televillain's wrists.

Phoebe is and has always been The Dangerous One.

No one says it's live. Televillain has the power to manipulate broadcast images.

The next scene has someone mentioning that the cast of Friends have been contacts and they are all okay.

You're familiar with the premise of Pleasantville, yes?

That'll work, too, or The Purple Rose of Cairo, for that matter.

I remember this from the collected edition. And wow, I'm glad to see Alan Moore's still active on this front.

I'm glad when Alan Moore does "regular" superhero stories. You can only deconstruct so much, I suppose.

.... okay... I know Family Guy covered how stupid to "mix-names" of things like "Burger Queen" and what not... but I think when you DO use the real name of shows and characters, you SHOULDN'T do stuff like that too them... unless they're kinda asking for it, like Micheal Moore or Hannity. Otherwise, you'll have Mighty Muder'd Power Ringers..

I dunno. Mighty Morphine Power Rangers might get to be really popular in certain circles.

There was that other "Ranger' parody that was in Linkara's opening credits, "Mighty Power Rumps" or something, is that something you would read?

Most likely not. But then I've never really watched Power Rangers in any form, the channels here didn't pick it up until 2k+ somewhen (I think) and it vanished pretty fast, so it was never part of my childhood.

Yet, I know there are people of any kind of myriad tastes out there. The more, eh, peculiar the better for them.

Hmm, He-Rump and the Masters of the Universe, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Rumps or maybe even Biker Rumps from Mars... heck, I'll try anything once.

You think that's bad, you should see what happens later in the arc at a Bon Jovi concert. Or, for that matter, at the White House with the Clintons.
