The *necessary* evil of Sinestro continues, as the reluctant Green Lantern hunts down the rest of his Sinestro Corps.



Sinestro is tracking Lyssa Drak, as she was able to retain most of her Yellow Ring power because she also has the book of the Black Lanterns. Lyssa is on the home planet of a defeated opponent of Sinestro, Starstorm (new character, as far I can tell) who is now pitiful shadow of the great hero he once was. Starstorm has his own light based abilities, able to track Yellow Ring energy and disrupt it. But the man who wields it no longer has the heart or spirit to fight.

Nevertheless, they find Lyssa, and during combat Sinestro manages to reach into the Book of the Black and tear out a page.. a page with his information on it.



Sinestro is able to defeat Lyssa by shattering Starstorm's power source at ground zero next to Lyssa, and letting the energy wave overwhelm her. But he keeps her alive, as he will need her. And Hal Jordan.

Yup, Sinestro knows what the Guardians are planning. And he is on their way to stop them.
With Hal Jordan in tow, whether he likes it or not.

We really are supposed to cheer Sinestro on and just forget about Hal, aren't we?

It's not that I particularly like Hal, but coming from a country with an history of dictatorship from a control freak much like Sinestro, it's so goddamn uncomfortable seeing this portrayal of him as the only one that can get things done. It's like a caricature: you can either get the incompetent 'freedom' man-child or the dictator that gets things done.

If at the end of this arc Sinestro goes for an ultra-evil-move and Hal stops him and we're supposed to cheer him on despite him not having done anything up until that point, it's going to be awkward.

Sinestro's characterization up to this point has basically been "Good points, baaaaad execution". Sinestro is probably going to make things uncomfortable for us all on his own, but we'll cheer him on anyway, because hey, he's charismatic and he isn't Hal.

I'm not really seeing it like that. It seems more like the status quo from now on is going to be Hal and Sinestro--buddy cops trying to live up to their past mistakes.

I don't really see how this portrayal of Sinestro is incredibly different from the proactive space-Hitler who actively started a galaxy-wide space war of Corps just to position the Green Lantern Corps exactly how he wanted them.

Sinestro's always been the guy who gets stuff done. Johns is just putting focus on him as a lead, it would seem, to move things forward and to spice things up a bit.

You misunderstand me, I have no problem with Sinestro's competence here. I have it with how he seems to be the only competent one from all I've seen. I have no problem with they portraying him as someone who gets things done except if in the end they want to stop him and those who do are characters who hardly do anything, it will look mighty hypocritical.

So FINALLY, FINALLY, all pretense is dropped, and the story has joined the fans in knowing what we've all known all along - the Guardians are evil.

No, Sinestro is not the first. Abin Surhelped mentor Sinestro, and he was trained by someone else.

Yeah, if this was meant to be a shocking twist they really shouldn't have had the Guardians bring the hammer down on people for feeling Hope and Love like they did.

Or their many, MANY failed secondary projects, such as the Alpha Lanterns and the Manhunters.

Or their genetic engineering of the Martians, resulting in them splitting into two species and the resulting atrocities the White Martians caused.

And although I know that apparently they tried to save Krypton but were too late, or something, but really I'd imagine they wouldn't have tried that hard to save them what with the potential threat they might have posed if they'd stopped their isolationist tendencies.

SO FUCKIN HAPPY FOR THIS NEWS!! I might actually start reading GL now. Seriously..I fuckin hate the Guardians, save for Ganthet. Why am I glad that they are now revealed as villains? Because that means there will be an eventual rebellion and they will FINALLY get their asses handed to them! Let the countdown to dethroning begin!
