It's symptomatic of almost all DC and Marvel comics of late. The star of the book is unquestionably the protagonist, and the history of supporting characters simply doesn't matter weighed against the latest flavor of the month.
I mean, Joseph is treated as a mere plot devise, from Astra to the God damn narrative. Cyke knew Joe personally, as did a number of X-Men. Joe gave his life to fix up Magneto's screw up. And frankly, he was a pretty well developed character.
And we see absolutely none of that in this mini. I know Joe acting out of character can be justified by his brainwashing, but the indifference of everyone else? Less so.
...except that he's not Joseph 2.0, as he was pulled from the EM field. He is Joe, and regardless of what Astra considers him, his old friends should still logically consider him the same person and care about his well being..
It's pretty enough on a frame by frame basis, but as a narrative it seems not terribly good.
For example, what IS going on in the last scan of the preview? I get there's something about a plane, and that the Blob thing is somehow giant sized, but it's terribly unclear.
It's kinda weird that the clone of the Blod still had his powers intact since the depowered mutants were supposed to have lost the X-gene on a cellular level.
If Astra can add the X-gene back into clones, why do they need Hope or Wanda?
Seriously. Even aside from my usual beef with the guy, I twitch at Magneto of all characters making jokes based on the time his daughter committed mutant genocide.
the editors at marvel aren't ready for their jobs, either, then.
i think skottie young's writing is fun tbh. maybe not for the flagship books where ppl keep track of everything and get butthurt about everything, but minis? hell yeah.

Date: 2012-02-20 05:36 pm (UTC)Aside from being another clone of Magneto that Astra created, the two individuals have nothing in common.

I like Skottie. I love Mags. But this script needed more attention before Clay got it.
