I don't mind it as a plot point but dislike it as a plot device. Like say it was part of the storyline that Starro was infecting government officals and none of them could be trusted that would be fine. So would showing that the current leaders are evil,corrupt or stupid on there own. This creates conflict like the JLA cartoon.
But this is basicly the JL outright saying that it is above any form of oversight because they are better than any government. And then blackmailing people into allowing them to do whatever they want. Not heroic and not interesting because the conflict is resolved and isn't a major part of the story. It's just outright saying that the JL is infallibly good and anyone who dares to question them is evil and or stupid.
look at it this way, it opens them to corruption or it opens them to bueracracy. Bueracracy may be worse because that's treated as a normal part of governance.
