Okay, I'm not an expert on Norse culture, but I'm pretty sure that Norse women actually had a better deal that that. IIRC, they had the political power back at home (because it's hard to do politics when you're going out and raiding and getting into fights and dying) and owned everything except hubby's weapons, boat, and meadhall (for about the same reason).

It's more about that they made a vow of chastity, and broke it. Bor is angry that they're oathbreakers.

Oath-breaking is a pretty big thing for him to be mad about. Still doesn't really make them "man's property" in a wedding, though.

Yeah, Bor has appeared in Marvel's Conan comics, so about 12,000 years ago. Given that nubile slave girls were stacked like cordwood in those stories, I suppose the less-than-enlightened attitude makes sense.
