I love how this revealed that the French and Indian War was caused by Stormwatch going public and then having to take it back through sci-fi weaponry and political assassination.
*sigh* So on top of the redesigns, the wonky voices and overall sense of editorial picking and prodding on this book, they took one of the few happy, angst-free, really-not-giving-a-fuck gay characters in comics and gave him coming-out angst via a backstory that sounds as perfunctory as if it was worked out on the back of a cigarette packet while watching teen soaps?
Sorry, not sold. Apollo was/is one of my favourite characters in comics simply because you had this genuinely easygoing, happy guy on a ridiculously hardcore morally-grey superteam; he was like the anti!90s-grimdark, which poked fun at the Authority's own excess and made his relationship with Midnighter all the more unlikely and sweet. And yes, it was nice and novel that here was a 90s character that nobody felt needed to have suffered emotionally in his past. What was wrong with that character that DC felt he needed to be fixed by making him bitter and snarky? (Because it's so edgy and mature and nobody else in the DCnU is like that... OH WAIT)
Hadn't the old Apollo and Midnighter been mindwiped when they got their powers? As in they had absolutley no idea who they were before they were Apollo and Midnighter?
Technichly then, the only backstory difference may be that Apollo now actually remembers his past, instead of being a historyless blank slate.
So Midnighter finds a way to wipe Apollo's memories ala Willow and Apollo becomes the happy-go-lucky superhero once more....BUT Midnighter knows the truth! The ANGST!
Willow and Tara's season six relationship is really not a good pattern to follow in terms of ethics (admittedly a rare problem for Midnighter) or survivability.
Heck, I don't even get why Tara was even willing to consider getting back with Willow. It had just been proven that it takes exeptionally little for Willow to screw around with her head. How could you ever trust someone after that?

Indeed, which was a source of angst and confusion for both of them, when a story had either one think about it. They didn't even know if they knew each other before they got their powers. I think there was even a sadistic suggestion from Henry Bendix that he "programmed" them to love each other.
