In this one-shot, a man wakes up in a hotel bathtub full of ice with an incision in his side... but there's no missing kidney, and no sign of drugs.

The Oculus Occultus reminds me of a spell the White Witch used in a Levitz/Giffen Legion of Superheroes. She needs to ascertain a cause of death of a murder victim and uses a spell to make his flesh transparent so she can see into his internal organs to spot the problem without having to wait for an autopsy. I think even Blok came close to throwing up when he saw the internal damage that had been done revealed in all it's internal organ-y glory.
