You know, with this issue, I had a revelation about this arc.
When the first issues came out, I was expecting something like a superhero book slowly turning into a horror book...and that never really happened, at least not that way.
With the whole Thomas Jr. stuff especially, I finally figured out what this reminded me of--bronze age horror comics like Swamp Thing or Tomb of Dracula, or classic Hammer horror flicks. There's still a good amount of horror or at least creepy moments, but there's also a lot of adventure and melodrama with it.
Overall, I enjoyed the arc, but I don't think it's anywhere near the "instant classic" that people thought it was going to be from issue 1.
You know, I really like this book. I think Capullo & Snyder do a great job. I may revise this opinion soon when Faceless Joker appears, we'll see.
But my god, this level of exposition. It seems to me that he should have set all this up in, I don't know, the actual story. When we get to the end, we have this character who has to talk this much merely to justify his becoming prominent at this late point.
Wow, I'm genuinely surprised that so few people have commented on the finale. Personally I thought it was fantastic, and I love the ambiguity regarding his brother between the mains story and the backup.

Misstep in an otherwise enjoyable arc.
