From Wonder Woman 600, Diana goes to Power Girl's house to see why her cat is being so grumpy lately.

Oh yeah, in addition to Joss Whedon' upcoming SHIELD show and BBC International's Night Watch show (based on the Discworld series behind the scenes of the individual novels), it seems that they're going to have another go at making a Wonder Woman show, this time under the title Amazon, with former WW writer Allan Heinberg in charge,
http://www.comicsalliance.com/2012/09/06/wonder-woman-amazon-tv-pilot-script-allan-heinberg-the-cw/

Apparently they are going to go the Arrow and Smallville route and have the take be a young and inexperienced Diana starting to make her way in the world as a woman and immigrant to Man's World, pre-costume and all. How well this goes depends on how they keep the executive to a minimum this time, as the attempts to make Diana a stereotypically Strong Independant Woman in the previous pilot... created a Wonder Woman who was a billionaire CEO who openly murdered and tortured people, being both terrifying and profoundly Non-Wonder Womany.

I would doubt that if Diana wasn't saying it.

This was my first thought too. Face it, Peeg -- you are just a hand with an opposable thumb, carrying a can opener.

I still think Mary McCormack (Kate Harper on The West Wing) would be an amazing WW

Too old, sad sad. She was in her early 40s on WW, I believe. She'd be a great Hippolyta though and now I cross my fingers.

Well, actually since it's Heinberg in charge, I'm already much more confident in it than the previous "Ally McDiana" take on that canned pilot.

Anyway, it's about time she's brought back, live.
'Hope it turns up for the best.

I'm willing to give Heinberg a shot at it. He's got TV chops, has written for CW's demographic on some decent shows and took what should have been a terrible idea (Young Avengers) and made it one of the best comics of the last decade.

I thought Smallville was terrible, but Arrow might not be. I honestly think WW is long overdue for a good, serious version of her character on TV. For being one of the most popular superheroes in the world, she's criminally underutilized.

The pitch already sounds so much better than the previous one. (And I say that as someone who isn't a fan of DCAU Diana because she's young and inexperienced; but it's a very different to young and inexperienced on one's own TV show and to be young and inexperienced - and thus easily overshadowed - on a team of experienced superheroes.)

I hope it's picked up and I hope it'll be good.

I personally felt his run, delays aside, was pretty eh.

However, it was fairly so-so real Wonder Woman by someone who's not going to misunderstand the character like the writers of the last TV attempt.

In his preferred medium, and working with other writers to help him out? Yea, this could be nice.

heehe sorry your Womany thing made me giggle.

It made me think of Humany Womany (Doctor who, and then he cried)

but yeah i like the idea of seeing a young immigrant wonder woman. I mean immigration is something that's STILL a very hot button issue right now and seeing an "Immigrant Superhero" might be nice. seeing her deal with both culture shock and the hardships of being an immigrant.

also would love to see her creative use of animal empathy :D

ALos as much as i hated the lateness of Heinberg's comics, i have always loved his television productions (they were mucch more reliable)

Oh damn, now I'm excited about the new Wonder Woman show. Don't raise my hopes up, bro. (Don't raise me, bro?)

Frankly, I sorta liked Murder Woman, if only because it was really easy to see it being a plan from one of her villains to discredit her before she ever left the island. Imagine, Diana arrives in Man's World only to find out that she has the reputation of a mass murdering psychopath who uses her image to make money.

Alternatively, have Diana as the decoy protagonist, having become more brutal in reaction to man's world's indifference, and then have Donna show up and take over as wonder Woman, trying to redeem the name of Wonder woman in the eyes of Man's World, trying to successfully serve as ambassador of peace. Maybe have Diana as a recurring antagonist.

Of course, this would be a pretty major Elseworld, seeing as it would be Diana INO. But then, that's what she was in the pilot.

Well, I accidentally closed the tab and lost my well worded comment, so here's the gist of it:
The writer's TV credits don't fill me with confidence, but then he has actually written WW in the comics, so maybe he's competent.
WW has too small a cast to support a Smallville-style soap opera, all she's got is Steve Trevor, Hippolyta, and maybe Etta Candy.
I want a show that mixes her working with the US government with Steve and her dealing with an Azzarello/Chang inspired Greek Pantheon, I might actually watch that.
Finally, CA's suggestion of a "no bracelets, no crown" rule is silly, the whole "no tights, no flights" rule with Smallville was to avoid what non-comic reading audiences often see (very, very, very wrongly, mind you) as the lamest elements of Superman. A more appropriate rule for WW would be "no invisible jets, no patriotic swimsuit comstumes."

Expanding the cast is easy, either go with the Sandsmark mother and daughter, or give her the Embassy staff, which would be a rich assortment of the normal and the weird, think "The West Wing" meets "Xena Warrior Princess"

Didn't he write Wonder Woman as a secret agent who couldn't lead a fruitful super hero life unless she had a secret identity? And did he have Batman take on Cheetah, a creature of super strength that Wonder Woman herself has issues dealing with at times?

Oh, what the heck am I saying? As long as she isn't a basta** child of Zeus, has more compassion than the new 52 counterpart and has a mother who can't stop talking about her cravings for godly sex, it should be fine.

The entire first story arc was about her putting everything on the line to protect an innocent baby, she uses Eros guns on Hades so that he can love himself, etc.

I guess maybe if you've only seen her in Justice League, you might miss all that.

No, I just remember the stories of Wonder Woman where she wasn't brought up from both a lies and tragedy, and her mother was and continued to be a big influential part of her life. It was refreshing to see a super hero who still had a living parent that they could always depend upon. I also remember that in the comics, she had female allies, friends and family that weren't there solely to be the damsel who's baby needed protecting.

Also, that Wonder Woman didn't portray the amazons as man-hating nymphs who can't even forge their own weapons. And she didn't use the guns on Hades to make him love himself. She had already accomplished that by simply talking to him.

Doesn't Wondy actually have the ability to communicate with animals? Heard she did but it's a forgotten power.

Also, Wonder Woman on CW. I'll give it a shot. I still think if they want to do it..smallville style, use JMS' run as source material.

This could be interesting.

But a part of me would rather she have an animated series. I grew up with Spiderman (the 90s version), Batman, Superman, and eventually Justice League/Unlimited. It would be great if kids growing up now could have something like that.

Wait... wait... so there's going to be a SHIELD show, a Night Watch show, and a Smallville-type Wonder Woman show? Holy moley. (I hope this Wonder Woman show is good, unlike that other one that got left on the cutting room floor due to being horribly written. And I wonder who's going to get cast as some of my favorite Watch characters?)

And Power Girl's cat likes her even better than canned cat food? Wow.

Shield series
