From Wonder Woman 600, Diana goes to Power Girl's house to see why her cat is being so grumpy lately.

Oh yeah, in addition to Joss Whedon' upcoming SHIELD show and BBC International's Night Watch show (based on the Discworld series behind the scenes of the individual novels), it seems that they're going to have another go at making a Wonder Woman show, this time under the title Amazon, with former WW writer Allan Heinberg in charge,

Apparently they are going to go the Arrow and Smallville route and have the take be a young and inexperienced Diana starting to make her way in the world as a woman and immigrant to Man's World, pre-costume and all. How well this goes depends on how they keep the executive to a minimum this time, as the attempts to make Diana a stereotypically Strong Independant Woman in the previous pilot... created a Wonder Woman who was a billionaire CEO who openly murdered and tortured people, being both terrifying and profoundly Non-Wonder Womany.

Date: 2012-09-07 11:56 am (UTC)I thought Smallville was terrible, but Arrow might not be. I honestly think WW is long overdue for a good, serious version of her character on TV. For being one of the most popular superheroes in the world, she's criminally underutilized.

Date: 2012-09-08 02:14 am (UTC)However, it was fairly so-so real Wonder Woman by someone who's not going to misunderstand the character like the writers of the last TV attempt.
In his preferred medium, and working with other writers to help him out? Yea, this could be nice.

Date: 2012-09-07 02:44 pm (UTC)It made me think of Humany Womany (Doctor who, and then he cried)
but yeah i like the idea of seeing a young immigrant wonder woman. I mean immigration is something that's STILL a very hot button issue right now and seeing an "Immigrant Superhero" might be nice. seeing her deal with both culture shock and the hardships of being an immigrant.
also would love to see her creative use of animal empathy :D
ALos as much as i hated the lateness of Heinberg's comics, i have always loved his television productions (they were mucch more reliable)

Date: 2012-09-07 03:50 pm (UTC)Frankly, I sorta liked Murder Woman, if only because it was really easy to see it being a plan from one of her villains to discredit her before she ever left the island. Imagine, Diana arrives in Man's World only to find out that she has the reputation of a mass murdering psychopath who uses her image to make money.

Date: 2012-09-07 09:11 pm (UTC)Of course, this would be a pretty major Elseworld, seeing as it would be Diana INO. But then, that's what she was in the pilot.

Date: 2012-09-07 04:23 pm (UTC)The writer's TV credits don't fill me with confidence, but then he has actually written WW in the comics, so maybe he's competent.
WW has too small a cast to support a Smallville-style soap opera, all she's got is Steve Trevor, Hippolyta, and maybe Etta Candy.
I want a show that mixes her working with the US government with Steve and her dealing with an Azzarello/Chang inspired Greek Pantheon, I might actually watch that.
Finally, CA's suggestion of a "no bracelets, no crown" rule is silly, the whole "no tights, no flights" rule with Smallville was to avoid what non-comic reading audiences often see (very, very, very wrongly, mind you) as the lamest elements of Superman. A more appropriate rule for WW would be "no invisible jets, no patriotic swimsuit comstumes."

Date: 2012-09-07 08:03 pm (UTC)Oh, what the heck am I saying? As long as she isn't a basta** child of Zeus, has more compassion than the new 52 counterpart and has a mother who can't stop talking about her cravings for godly sex, it should be fine.

Date: 2012-09-09 01:02 pm (UTC)Also, that Wonder Woman didn't portray the amazons as man-hating nymphs who can't even forge their own weapons. And she didn't use the guns on Hades to make him love himself. She had already accomplished that by simply talking to him.

Date: 2012-09-09 02:27 pm (UTC)And I think that the ability to get magical weaponry made by a god (or at least designed by one) should kind of trump ones that they could have made by themselves.

Date: 2012-09-07 09:51 pm (UTC)Also, Wonder Woman on CW. I'll give it a shot. I still think if they want to do it..smallville style, use JMS' run as source material.

Date: 2012-09-08 05:12 am (UTC)But a part of me would rather she have an animated series. I grew up with Spiderman (the 90s version), Batman, Superman, and eventually Justice League/Unlimited. It would be great if kids growing up now could have something like that.

Date: 2012-09-08 09:13 pm (UTC)I want BlackWidow/Hawkeye in series form.
