So while Aang, Zuko and Azula are out looking for Ursa, this story deals with what happened to Mai (Zuko's girlfriend/arranged fiance who dumped him during the Promise) after she wandered off.

Personally I think that it could be interesting, as she hasn't exactly had that much character development thus far in the canon...

Zuko ws stressed out and made some bad decisions, seemingly forgot that he had a supportive partner in Mai and did things like not telling her he'd be leaving the country for months at a time. This, understandibly, ticked her off some and she left him until he got his act together.

And Iroh the Second is Zuko's grandson, his daughter (fandom named Honora) comes first. *nods*

one of Zuko's things was his seach for honor.

it became such a thing that it was actually spoofed in the show, an episode which featured a "theatrical troop" playing them all. Zuko's character, aside from constantly changing hair, was also fond of crying out "HONOR!" or "FOR HONOR!"

so, the fan name for the daughter "Honora" is a play on that fact.

What the hell kind of Fantasy-Counterpart-Asian name is the blatantly Latinate "Honora"? (I'm similarly bugged by the choice of "Ursa" rather than, say, "Kuma"--which has the additional advantage of compatibility with the Fire Nation's penchant for spiky consonants--but that's long since canon and water under the bridge.)

It's a joke, considering how obsessed with the concept of honor that Zuko is the fandom thought that it would be funny if he named his first child after it. It's kind of shown up in a lot of different places, becoming the unofficial name of her until an actual one is released. ^^;

That said, there was a kid in season two named Hope...

Wait, and Azula's name is meant to be derived from azure referring to the colour of her flame (in-verse named after her grandfather Azulon) so her's isn't either.

Yeah, the creators wanted to give her an Asian name that translated to Hope, but decided not enough people would get it. Though I'm still not sure why they couldn't go the same route they did with Yue's name--say "Her name is [insert name]. It means 'hope'."

Moreover, the explanation worked in-story because the name "Yue" clearly comes from a different language base than the Water Tribe's mock-Inuktitut default.

(I'm reminded of Robert Graves's brilliant use of a historical Fun Fact: since the Emperor Claudius was on record as having declared Greek the ideal literary language, it would make perfect sense for him to write his memoirs in that language--thereby explaining why, and for whom, a Roman would feel the need to explain Latin terminology and puns throughout.)

In "The Promise," part 2. Shorty after Mai storms off, Suki comes in, apologizing profusely, as she was the one who told Mai in the hope that Zuko might open up to her. There's a small scene where Suki says that the Kyoshi Warriors are worried about Zuko.

That she's really worried about Zuko.

It's a small thing, really, but the implication didn't go unnoticed. And seeing that Gene worked closely with Bryke, who are infamous for trolling their fans (especially when it comes to shipping) I would bet good money that it was deliberate.

Personally, she was concerned for him as a friend in Part Two of the Promise which COULD be interpreted as her having an interest in him, but considering she immediately started making out with Sokka when they met after months apart in Part Three... I think it's more she knew how much stress h was under (potential war with the Earth Kingdom over the colonial situation, multiple assassination attempts from Fire Nation nobility who see him as a traitor for deposing Azula and Ozai, Mai leaving him) and was trying to act as a friend instead of his bodyguard.
