Leaving out a lot here, including the part where she finally loses it.

Guess which man?

And then she steals everybody's money and feeds one of the most obnoxious guys his wedding ring.

So Black Canary and Batman parallel each other in a lot of ways their, as Batman says, "Ruthlessness." Also, he just fed a mugger his own teeth.

I always thought Simone finished her BoP story the way she wanted, hence the Sin thing. I recall an interview where she said she was happy with being able to finish the Black Canary story she always wanted to tell...which is why the whole stay at home mom/lead the JLA collision struck me as...I won't say a "good thing" because that would wrongly imply I like that, but rather a writer getting to do what they wanted despite the big crappin' picture.

But anyway...it just kind of made me go "Say what?" when I read your post.

I understood that quote as being in the context of "have the supposed Last Canary Hostage Scene and put that trope to rest, reconnect her with her mother's legacy, build her up into a confident first-tier equal-of-Batman badass" thing. I've seen her say enough times that she thought it was a mistake to take Dinah off the title, and got a strong enough sense from reading the Katarina arc that Babs' concerns about whether there even was a Birds without Dinah were meta concerns bleeding in as well, that it wouldn't have occurred to me to think that taking Dinah off the field was ever an interest of hers.

But anyway...it just kind of made me go "Say what?" when I read your post.

Your accurate read on my potential dissatisfaction with Diana at the moment is actually another reason that I'm looking forward to the Canary guest; I've been more satisfied with the short lighthearted arcs than the longer serious ones thus far.

See, I'm on the opposite of that theory spectrum. I always thought Simone's game plan was having Dinah leave, hence moving away from the buddy-flick nature of the book with Oracle/Dinah and going towards a rotating cast with Huntress as the main field agent. If Dinah had left because doing BoP and JLA was too much while raising Sin, I'd agree with your assessment; with Dinah retiring to solely raise Sin, despite Dinah also being in JLA, it seemed to fit with my theory that this was the writer finishing up the story the way she wanted how she wanted. (Mind you, I don't want to sound like I'm arguing my view/opinion is right, just that I'd been waiting for that shoe to drop since 2004.)
