I guess that certain (crazy isn't the right work) types of people rally around the Joker, using him as an expression of their own issues.

The part I can't take seriously is "Emperor Penguin." Seriously, does everyone have to have a nickname in this town? In real life gangsters like "Shorty" (seriously evil Mexican crime lord) in DC? "Emperor Penguin." *_* .....

I would take him more seriously as a threat if I didn't know Penguin was just going to take him apart piece by piece when he got back.

Yeah, even if he didn't have a horrible name, I still find him kinda bland and boring. Which is surprising, since Layman's done a shit-ton of fun and interesting criminal/characters in Chew.

Sorry, but a prettyboy (Well, tall slim and well built) Penguin is missing the point of the Penguin by a mile, which I suppose might actually be the point of "Emperor Penguin" longer term.

That being said, he actually has a good plan, the Joker brings chaos, so use it to your own advantage.

Well, I kinda think there's a tiny flaw in it. Joker might not like the fact that he gets used. It just might be that third Tuesday from a blue moon when he's like that.

Pretty sure Emperor Penguin will be short-lived. The question is, will he be willing to go back to being Oswald's second banana (that's who he was before Joker grabbed Penguin for his shenanigans) and will Oswald be impressed by his moxie and organizational skills or just kill him outright?

The Joker-inspired gangs here of course remind me of the Jokerz in Beyond, which is interesting because I always assumed the Joker-worship gangs sprang up after the Joker died.

I was about to say the same thing-- that it's cool they're introducing the Jokerz (or precursors) in the regular book here.

Speaking of Beyond, is the regular series still going? I moved to trades a while back, but I haven't seen any since Terry laid down some ground rules for his membership with the JLU.

Yep, still going. I'm picking up the floppies every month, and it's a great book. The last couple issues have been really awesome for me as a fan of the whole Batfamily.
