"I’m drawing from all eras, and different looks and different takes. There are even some references to Batman: The Animated Series in this book as well. I can even hear Mark Hamill’s voice coming out of the Joker when I’m drawing him. I’m not really interesting in deviating too far from what everybody’s expecting—I really wanted to deliver a classic Joker, the way that I want to see Joker look in a comic book." -- Jason Fabok

"We made a choice right from the beginning that we would base the look of our book around what Brian did in The Killing Joke. I consciously infused a lot of that Brian Bolland, even the way he would tell stories through his panels. The Killing Joke has sat next to my desk for the last two years. I've been constantly referencing it, and even following a lot of the rules of how he laid out his panels in that book. I really want it to feel like it could be a spiritual sequel, at least artistically." -- Jason Fabok

"When you’re dealing with the Joker, you want to do something new. You want to do something that’s both true to the character, and also showing a different layer and different viewpoint. He’s one of the greatest characters in all of comics, and he’s been interpreted so many ways, so well, in so many mediums." -- Geoff Johns

"It's in continuity like Killing Joke is. You can take it, or leave it. We are going to introduce some pretty gutsy stuff in Jokers that's never been done before. So the fans can react to it and they can decide if they want it part of main continuity or not, like Killing Joke." -- Jason Fabok

“The world doesn’t need just another Batman-Joker story. One of the reasons I've never done one before is because there are so many amazing ones, so I was only gonna do one if it was different and surprising and looked at the Joker and the meaning of the Joker and his effect on Batman and his family in a new way. We’re not introducing a multiverse of Jokers, we’re not out to change these characters forever, but we are turning over some rocks about these characters and their relationships.” -- Geoff Johns

In addition to the two regular covers for each issue of Three Jokers, there will also be three additional 'premium' variants. Each of them showcase a different version of the Joker. Here are a few I liked the best. (There are more here.)

Three years since it was teased 'Three Jokers' will premiere this summer. There's a lengthy interview with Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok at Entertainment Weekly although there's not a lot of new information. Much like Doomsday Clock was cribbing off the composition and style of Watchmen, Three Jokers will be emulating the style of (you guessed it) The Killing Joke. So you know, insert commentary about Geoff Johns and Alan Moore here.

DC released for NYCC which eras the "Three Jokers" will correspond with.

“The coolest thing about this story is, no one knows anything about it,” Johns told a rapt NYCC audience. “It’s a pretty mature take. I’ve never gotten to write a Batman and Joker story, and Jay’s never gotten to draw one. We wanted to tell the best Batman story, the best Joker story possible.”

“Jason [Todd], Barbara [Gordon] and Batman are gonna be the main characters,” he added.

“This whole book is a lotta work,” Fabok said. “But I’m so excited to get up and work, and every time I hand in a page, I’m really proud of it. I feel there’s a magic to this story. I had chills, I really feel like Geoff has come up with the ultimate Batman/Joker story.”

Still have no idea how this is going to work out without being convoluted or contrived but we'll see...

This is like when you go to the movies to see IT. You’re not going for the romance and the laughs and the friendship. You’re going to get close to the darkness so that when you come out you can smile at the light. So, that’s what I want them to get from it. I want them to be cold enough that when they put it down, their house feels warm and it feels like a relief. -- Tom King

King has obviously had an amazing year, and I can't help but think his use of the nine-panel grid and formalist work is exactly what Moore would have been hoping for post-Watchmen rather than people just making everything violent. He's so good he scares me a little. -- Kieron Gillen
