King has obviously had an amazing year, and I can't help but think his use of the nine-panel grid and formalist work is exactly what Moore would have been hoping for post-Watchmen rather than people just making everything violent. Fun fact: if you count both the regular cover and the lenticular cover, this comic sold over 56,000 more copies than Secret Empire #0, despite the latter being ranked number one in the April sales charts.

Is that because Marvel produced and shipped more copies to distributors? I heard they were inflating their figures by using that tactic.

It was because these issues of Batman and the flash had two different prices. Diamond counts them as separate issues since the special covers cost more.

So if you count both covers as one these two issues were bought by more comic shops than the start of marvel's latest event.

I really wish you could still find sell through numbers but ever since the direct market they aren't really tracked so we know how many copies of issues so and so were bough by stores to sale but we have no idea how many were sold to actual people.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. It would be nice if there was a clear cut way to tell how many people were buying comics. With digital sales now a thing to add to the confusion it really is hard to tell just how good or bad things have really gotten. Although I guess with Marvel wanting to cancel any comic moving less than twenty thousand units that tells us a lot right there.

I don't even like this story as a whole. Like, at all.

And yet, this scene here got me right in the feels. I actually gasped at that "oh yes" panel. I was so angry at that bastard, and enthusiastically rooted for Batman to beat the odds and kick his ass. That "hm overtime" panel was fantastic.

What Moore was hoping for post-Watchmen was to retain the rights and not have DC swindle him so they could do stuff like this.

True, but Kieron Gillen was talking about Tom King's work in general, not this issue, which is his only involvement in the Watchmen stuff.

That cave is the most unguarded location in the DC universe. I bet if you took the time, you could make a list as long as your leg with names of people who just strolled on in and kicked Bruce's ass.

I don't dislike King's work by any means, but it's incredibly frustrating to me because I don't see the "brilliance" so many others seem to. Certainly not lately.

Batman #20. Bane and Batman beat the shit out of each other for 20 pages while the series thus far is recapped, ending with Batman headbutting Bane while literally yelling "I'm Batman." Rave reviews.

This right here sums up why I won't buy DC's Rebirth crap. I don't want Watchmen part of the DCU. It was a self-contained story and its own thing and it should remain that way.

To say nothing of how horribly DC has handled shuffling around the continuity to bring it back to before nu52.
