Some people complain about how Ollie murders folk in the Arrow show, but him stabbing people with high speed pointy sticks ain't nothing compared to what Wonder Woman gets up to in the 2011 pilot...

Update following the strip yesterday, where it seems that the Wonder Woman show Amazon is only sort of delayed, not outright cancelled.

And, yes, the JLA movie rests solely upon how well Man of Steel does financially. So if you want to see Wonder Woman in a film WATCH THE MOVIE THIS SUMMER!

I hear the TV show will be run by Allan Heinberg. So that's interesting. It might be good to see him work on Wondy when he can focus on it. I'm not saying I'll like it much; his take on Wondy in the comic was...not how I would have wanted it, even if he'd kept it up.

I didn't find his run awful - especially compared to Picoult's immediately after - but it just seemed to really go nowhere and yet had hints of a bigger story that Heinberg wanted to tell by was forced to wrap up too quickly for his liking. Naming the thing 'Who Is Wonder Woman?' was entirely pointless too, given little to nothing was done with the idea of Donna as WW and then Circe usurping that power. But.. I've seen worse. Diana's rarely looked better than she does with that Dodson art, and I actually liked some of the rogue redesigns.

I think Heinberg probably has a better understanding of Diana in general than the last guy they had working on the show, frankly. Given the heavy-handed approach editorial had to books in the run from Infinite Crisis to Final Crisis, I don't know how much Heinberg is to blame for his story; DC, after all, seemed to insist on taking the Trinity out of the picture for 52 and a little bit beyond that in OYL.

So.. Who knows. It could be pretty good. Certainly better than whatever version the 2011 show might've been.

Ain't no murder like a Wonder Woman murder 'cause a Wonder Woman murder involves a metal pipe through the throat.

That pilot was BAD.

Honestly, if it hadn't been a Wonder Woman pilot, I could see it being a pretty good tv show. A morally bankrupt superhero who is so convinced of her inherent goodness that she ignores all of the very evil stuff she does, to such a degree that she has a whole corperation of people working to give her a good public image? I would watch that.

Honestly, if it's not a good flick, I'm fine with not having a JLA flick for awhile either.

As if Man of Steel will do badly in a financial sense anyway. That's to say nothing of the quality - and I don't think Nolan and Snyder are two flavours that should be mixed at all - but it's not going to do badly. Superman Returns didn't do badly in a financial sense, after all, and people love to shit on that movie.

There are degrees of success, though. Superman Returns made money, but not a ton considering how much it cost.

I'm guessing a performance on the same level as Returns won't get a JLA movie.

It's got Nolan attached, though. And superheroes in general are bigger business than they were when Returns was released. And it's Superman, in general. Batman Begins, remember, didn't do huge business, but did a respectable amount.

That's not to say I don't find it complete nonsense that the possibility of a Justice League movie hinges on the success of Man of Steel; DC/WB needs to take more chances, frankly. If they'd pushed out a Wonder Woman movie, that would at least steal a feather from Marvel's cap - given they can't even give Johansson as the very-well received Black Widow a movie of her own.
